We're in that "in-between" time which comes after most of the leaves have fallen, and the snow hasn't yet arrived. And it looks like it will be a while, because above average temps are in the forcast.

Though the colors aren't as bright as they were a month ago, the smells of Autumn are at their peak, with decaying leaves and cedars combining to produce that unique woodsey fragrance. We're still working on a way to deliver THAT over your modem.

I visited during the "in-between" time and kicked lots of oak leaves while wandering through the Cliff Mine and cemetary area on 10/28. Elmo even permitted access to the tippy top of the tower. I agree that the smells of autumn are wonderful and much better than soggy sage brush.
When you package that, I'll be the first in line.

Now that would be aromatherapy! And it would surely cure the blahs of the in-between times downstate....

This site is so refreshing! Where exactly is Bond Falls? For one born and raised in the U.P., I sometimes feel very ignorant about its geography.

Fragrances over the internet? It's not so unbelievable. Imagine "odor cartridges" similar to ink cartridges -- filled with specific perfumes or chemicals which, when "printed" together, produce desired aromas. At the click of a mouse your room COULD get a whiff of the north woods...
Credit the idea, I believe, to a New Year's musing in the Wall Street Journal.

Love this place...second favorite to the Porkies! I have never been here in the fall but I can see it is still beautiful. Every year we visit the falls and it never ceases to perk me up! Lucy, the falls are off M45 in Ontonagon county, north of Bruce Crossing if I remember right.

The year I graduated from college, my Dad and Mom asked me to help them drive from Detroit to the UP. Since all of our trips when we were kids were hurry-up, flying trips, never stopping along the way, I said I would, if we could stop whenever any of us took a notion or saw a road or sign that we wanted to explore. Because of that, I saw Bond Falls (they already knew of it) and it has always been one of my favorite places. We saw lots of places I had never seen during our many summers in and trips to the UP, but Bond Falls has always remained a favorite! Thanks for the great picture.

Thank you to all who gave enlightenment on where the falls are. My appetite is defintely whetted to see it when I go home next summer! In fact, because of this site, there are several new places I hope to explore if I can fit it all in! I can hardly wait!

Re: Bond Falls
Just a little historical information. If my memory serves me correctly they (it was) were named for Carrie Jacobs Bond the writer of that beautiful old song, I Love You Truly, and another which I cannot, nor can my husband, remember. He was the one who remembered the Carrie Jacobs Bond connection when I mentioned there was a picture of Bond Falls on Pasty Cam. I think she was from either Ironwood or Iron Mountain. Any music historians out there who can fill us in? Maybe I'll put this Internet to work and try to look it up. I am rather new at this but I'll try.

When I lived in Iron River, there was a Carrie Jacobs Bond home there that they moved to the Museum in Caspian.
The pictures of Bond Falls are wonderful, this past year my husband saw the falls for the first time and fell in love with the area. Thanks to this site, when it is hot and miserable here, we can go look at the beautiful UP.
