Our Pasty Cam-boy Jonathan spent a little time this weekend chasing the cars at this years Lake Superior Pro Rally. There is a website with race results, sponsored by D&N Bank.

A couple of beautiful days for the drivers, and for the spectators to spend some time in the woods.

No more leaves; looks cold. Winter is around the corner.

This scene kind of reminds me of my time up at MTU with my dendrology class trekking through the woods trying to identify trees with no help from mother nature. All the leaves were gone by the time our exams rolled around so we had NO help whatsoever. Except for one tree, the one Red Oak left in the woods most likely that only had ONE leaf left on it, and surprisingly enough we had to identify the tree NEXT to it, not the Red Oak. Hmpf.. little good that did us! :o)

Didn't John Davis do a lot of the initial research for the POR (Press On Regardless) rally at the Library? It must have been 30 years ago when he talked as enthusiastically about the Rally as he talked about THE Frisby tournament. Did the POR evolve? I noticed the SCCA web site mentioned the first rally 23 years ago. I've been out of town for a while (just a few decades,) so my recollections are a little dim. John was a big guy who left his mark on a few CC institutions.

This was a pretty tough rally. I should know, I am a crew member for the Team No Trees car (see picture w/ "no tree" lisence plate). We were fixing the car until 5:00 a.m. on friday night, then we had get up 3 hours later and finish saturday's leg of the rally. Talk about "press on regardless"! Anyway, we won the national championship for production class. Yay!

Hey don't talk about Jon Davis in the past tense like that. He's still in Houghton. I chatted with him last August and he looks like he'll be around for many years yet.
