So tell me, where did the term "Indian Summer" get its name? I used the same phrase to a Texan yesterday and he said he had never heard of "Indian Summer". I explained that we related it to this last burst of warm weather before winter, but I was at a loss to explain where the expression comes from. Any help?
There is an excellent article about "Indian Summer" at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/dtx/i-summer.htm
Quote:The term "Indian Summer" dates back to the 18th century in the United States. It can be defined as "any spell of warm, quiet, hazy weather that may occur in October or even early November."
