It's always exciting to tune in the bridge cam and catch a glimpse of the lift bridge raising (though the people waiting in the cars probably aren't too excited.) The bridge cam looks out a 3rd floor window in Daryl Laitila's house in Hancock - and when the Algorail slipped through this passage, Daryl grabbed her trusty Pasty Cam and captured it for the world to see.

The second shot, with the stone building visible on the other shore, reminded me of a view from the Houghton side, which is stored somewhere back in the Pasty Cam Archives almost 2 years ago.

Wonder how many times the bridge has appeared on these pages?

I was beginning to think that the lift bridge was no longer operational. That may seem odd but having never seen in operation I was starting to wonder. However, it's defiently cool to see it operating. Having never seen a lift bridge in operation I enjoyed seeing this picture. Good shot Kep 'em comin'!

Its great to see the U.P. on the internet and seeing the Houghton/Hancock Bridge is cool. I live in Rochester, Minnesota and I have a picture of the bridge in my office. Thanks for all the work you do.

What a shot of the bridge. The farther along we go in time the less it seems the bridge gets used. Times have changed in many ways and I hope the Copper Country remains what it has always been. The area is one of the most beautiful places on earth and I can not wait till the next time I get to see it and all my family up there.

Cool!! Could you schedule one of those boats to go through the canal when I am there in a couple of weeks? :-) The extra time in traffic is no problem, I live in the DC metro area, so sitting in traffic is pretty much normal for me.

I love that old bridge. The sites and sounds that come from it still are fresh in my mind still after all the years.

My sister, living in Detroit, passed away on this date (9/18/2000). She had been born in Hancock in 1929, when our father worked at the Quincy Mine. How appropriate to have this particular picture displayed on this date.
