Alex Protzel of Copper Harbor, and Dan Urbanski of Silver City team up to give us a couple of great views off the Keweenaw tip. Comparing the perspective of the shots, it appears that Dan was a little farther out on the Peninsula, more to the south - as we see more of the lighthouse (it's only a speck in Alex's photo).

Both of these wonderful images give us a feel for the variety of moods Lake Superior exhibits. In case you missed it last month, we had another pair of evening scenes not far from here. And of course, that beautiful sunrise at Gull Rock, which Alex Protzel shared with us on Labor Day weekend.

Alex's sunrise photo is spectacular. I've seen
quite a few sunrises in that vicinity, but none so
interesting.

My wife Patty and I have camped at High Rock Bay
each summer for almost twenty years. For us it is
a ritual of reflection and recreation. Last year
we were driven off by stable flies, and this year
we were questioning our judgement in deciding to
stay one more night when the big easterly wind
kicked up. Like Charlie says, this is a place of
the many moods of Lake Superior with its influence
on the rock shores and tortured trees that cling
to them.

Gorgeous! One of the best ever! Thank you.

There's never been anything but excellent photos @Pasty.com/cam and I have been viewing and saving most ever since my Yooper/Laurium son-in-law brought the site to my attention, shortly after you went on line. Keep up the good work (and that includes all who send in their own personal shots).

This was just about a minute into the sunrise and that sun was bright! You can see the lense effects (the diamonds) from the sun shining straight into the digi-camera lense barrel.

The shot of shore waves from Dan U. reminds me that it's possible to kayak from the point to Manitou Island on a calm day.

Hmmm...

By Dan U on Monday, September 18, 2000 - 11:12 pm:

Alex,

Patty and I have never gotten a day calm enough to
kayak to Manitou on our many camping trips. Hope I
make it there sometime in my lifetime!

The sunrise picture is so spectacular, I would give my eye teeth to have a copy...and I do not have a way to make it. If Mr. Prozel would be so kind as to make a copy for me, my E-mail address is Bee0106@aol.com I would be ever so grateful. Such immense beauty, you bear can take it in . THANKS ever so much!
