We are often so captivated by the beauty of the sunsets here on the Keweenaw Peninsula, that sometimes we neglect to see the rich textures of light away from the horizon.

Jonathan snapped this shot (suitable for windows wallpaper :o) just about the time the sun was going tssssz into the deep off of Five Mile Point. This handsome tree and his friends live in the little roadside park a few miles from Eagle River.

Does anybody remember the name of that park?

By Bill Penprase on Sunday, September 10, 2000 - 10:31 pm:

That probably is the Clem Veale Park. Mr. Veale was the Keweenaw County Road Commissioner for many, many years and managed Keweenaw Park from its beginning. He was a real nice man and ran good organizations.

Jon has an artist's eye for the beauty that is
discovered in the subtleties of nature, as in this
picture of a pine trunk. It's a thrill to see
another photographer's acute observation. This
photo speaks volumes to me. I look at it and my
feet are on the edge of the sandy beach and I can
hear the Lake over my shoulder. Great work, Jon!

I wasn't sure if the park was between Eagle River and Copper Harbor or not. Our two favorite parks there are Hebbard and Esrey right along M26. Could it be one of those?

Who ever thought the bark of a tree could be so beautiful and interesting! Your perception is amazing, and I long to be there, on that beach, at sunset, seeing the sunstreaks on the ground. Absolutely inspiring!
