The first thing that caught my eye on this picture from Joan Velde is the pink/purple cast to the sky and the Lake. Quite a contrast to the orange we saw over the Porcupine Mountains last week on the Pasty Cam... or was it the week before? Time does fly when you're having fun.

Looking a little longer at this shot, you begin to sense something profound about the way the rocks seem to be swimming between the islands... just like the ducks. Funny how all of creation seems to be moving somewhere.

But are they ducks? or geese? ...Ah, the mysteries of life here in the Keweenaw.

Actually, I think it's both ducks and geese! Also, with the lake at a lower level this year, the rocks between Porter Is. and the other point of land show more than usual.

This shot is taken very close to the Bella Vista Motel where my mother works. It is owned by some of my relatives. Do you think you could get a shot sometime of the Bella Vista, or the flower gardens near the lake so I can show my friends in New York City what it is like to vacation in God's country?

Who cares if they are ducks or geese--it is a beautiful shot. ( I vote for ducks)

Angle and shape of head, beak, and long neck leads me to believe they are Canadian Geese.

This shot reminded me of a cormorant duck we saw in July with 23 ducklings up near Jacobsville.

Yes, they are Canadian Geese, but there were a couple of ducks swimming with them when I took the photo.

A note on geese: The proper term is Canada Goose. Geese do not have citizenship, which would make them true Canadians. I called them Canadian geese for years until a knowledgable friend clued me in.

Well ... it's not a Plesiosaur.
