Jean Petermann Zimmer, of Eagle River and Laurium, passed away December 29, 2001. The daughter of Phil and Myrna Petermann, in 1939 Jean was the first woman to earn a degree in Geology from the Michigan College of Mining & Technology.
Jean was a lifelong resident of the Upper Peninsula. During the 1950s and early 1960s, she lived in Sault Ste. Marie with her first husband, the late Ernie Kemp, Professor of Geology at Lake Superior State University. She returned to Houghton in 1965, where she served as Curator and Director of the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum at Michigan Tech until her retirement in 1986.
After retiring, she married Paul Zimmer, MTU '40, and lived in her family homes in Laurium and Eagle River. From childhood Jean had a reverence for nature and wildlife, and dearly loved the Keeweenaw. Her warm and kind spirit brought light to the lives of all who knew her.

In memory of Craig Lemler. He is missed by many of his class members. When ever we get together there are always fond memories of Craig.
