The snow should be a lot deeper along the shore here in Eagle River by this time. But even as I send these words, I see the current temp is 36 and occasional showers are sprinkling on us. The rest of the shore will be melted by morning if this keeps up.

It certainly has been easier on the snow plowing budget this winter compared to 2000. Through this date last year we had over 140", while currently we've seen about 23". It sure has slowed down traffic to the snowmobile trails and ski hills.

Speaking of snow plowing, we want to send a big "thank you" to our friends at Blizzard Plows. Today I was reminded of their generosity in donating a Blizzard Plow to Still Waters toward the end of last season. Our handy man John was putting the chains on our big truck, getting ready for the snow holiday to end sometime in the near future.

Just keep the snow away long enough for our family to come up there and not have to shovel the driveway. I figured by now, that there would be 6' of snow and 8' banks by the road. I cannot wait to get out of here and get across the "real" bridge on the Portage Canal on the way to Calumet.
Heiki Lunta, go to Hawaii until Jan 3rd.

COLD WINDS (by Lee Murdock)

Cold winds blow across the harbor
Cold winds on the Inland Sea
Ice forms along the catwalks
Of the ore boat 'Jean-Marie'.

From Thunder Bay to the Thousand Islands
We sail this inland sea
Danger lurks at every mile
For the ore boat 'Jean-Marie'.

I saw Lee Murdock in concert at the Eagle Harbor life station site a few years ago..It was a great concert on the edge of the greatest of the great lakes!

Gales of Nov/Dec with 20' waves make one wish they had never went "boating"
