Spotted this pleasant little log church near Mansfield Location while rambling about the UP recently. A sign on the front door invited visitors to sign the guest book on the inside so entered. The church was empty but cheerfully warm with a fire crackling in the drum wood stove. It really must be a wonderful place to enjoy a Christmas Eve service and sing hymns.

What a beautimous little church! Where is the Mansfield location? Speaking of Christmas services, The Watson Bible Chapel (off CR 426 in Watson, S Marquette Co) will have a Christmas program this Sunday morning, the 16th, from 10 - 11 and Christmas Eve service at 7:00 pm. Everyone welcome!

Are they looking for a pastor? Is the church still being used? Do you know what denomination?

By CRAIG MESSNER on Thursday, December 13, 2001 - 10:02 am:

THIS IS A COUNTRY QUAINT SETTING,& DEFINETLY WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT, ONE OF LIFES SIMPLE PLEASURES & TREASURES IN THE UPPER PENINSULA. UNFOURTUNATELY, THEY ARE NOT LOOKING FOR A PASTOR & YES THE CHURCH IS STILL BEING USED. IT IS A NON-DENOMINATIONAL CHURCH & IS USED FOR CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE AS WELL AS WEDDINGS. IT IS SMALL, HOWEVER, WILL SEAT APPROX 60 +. I KNOW, I HAD THE PLEASURE OF BEING MARRIED THERE ON 01-21-01. MY WIFE WAS ORIGINALLY FROM THE AREA & I FROM HOUGHTON COUNTY.
WE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING SPECIAL BUT SMALL & QUAINT. WITH IMMEDIATE FAMILY & A FEW FRIENDS, IT WAS A VERY VERY SPECIAL DAY TO SAY THE LEAST! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL. MAY GOD BLESS YOU WITH HEALTH & PROSPERITY.

Uh...Where's the snow?

By Flat Lander. E.H.mi. on Thursday, December 13, 2001 - 02:05 pm:

Hey,Tater!
Easy on the "S" word.
Happy Holidays!

By Kevin, San Francisco on Thursday, December 13, 2001 - 02:50 pm:

uh...Looks like the snow was used as mortar
in the log construction.

The restroom facilites? (at back of property)
are conspicuously lacking the same.
I visited that church some ten years ago. The
front door had the coolest (antique)
mechanism that automatically operated the
door. The definition of quaint! Peace on earth.

Yes this is a great little church, my husband and I were married in this church in March of 1995. On one of those warm spring days, we didn't have to start the barrol stove and there was over two feet of snow on the ground.

We often travel M-69 from our home in Upper Michigan down into Wisconsin and have passed by Mansfield many times, but never knew of the existence of this church! My nephew Craig (Messner) was married there, so the next trip through, we will stop by. A blessed Christmas to all who read these greetings! Thanks to niece Dorothy (Johnson) for telling me about this page, and nephew Craig for letting me know they were married here.

BEAUTIFUL CHURCH!

By Sandy, Monroe County, MI on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 - 11:37 am:

What an inspiring building! Just proves we don't need all the "fancy" trappings of this world to worship in style. What a beautiful picture. (Not to repeat what everyone else can't help but say). Can't wait until my next trip "UP" to check it out for myself. (Probably January to return Tech students to campus).

Thanks for sharing the beauty of the UP with we "trolls". :)

My wife and I love to sit and listen while we're in the Mansfield Pioneer Church. We're lucky to have a few things in this life move us the way this church does.
