In our never-ending pursuit of a glimpse of life in the U.P., Stephen and Alicia Marshall take us inside the Cliff View Inn for a look at their art work. Maybe not as elaborate as last month's Ambassador murals, but interesting anyway.

On US-41 just down the hill from the Snow Thermometer north of Mohawk, the Cliff View was owned by Tom Stiglich for many years, until he sold it to Holly and Barney Leskinen.

In 1988, we arrived in Eagle River late in the day to spend our first Christmas Eve. It never occurred to us to pick up something to eat on our way through Houghton/Hancock and Calumet. I remember the taste of the hot sandwiches we found at Cliffview.

Just a couple of months ago we ran into a group of four wheelers from Minnesota, next door at the Vansville bar. This gives you a good idea of the view across the highway from this front porch.

Charlie,

Just a short note, again. I sent you an e-mail
after our Skinner reunion, but have not heard
from you. I did not receive a notice of un-delivered mail.

I am still learning, but enjoying my computer.

Talked to your Mom. She is fine and staying
busy.

Merry Christmas,
Dot Rodgers

I make a pilgrimage to the Keewenaw twice a year from the twin cities just to get away from it all.I am happy to say that when we head up towards copper harbor on Hwy. 41..you just have to stop off at the cliffview for a couple and hang out. When I was up the weekend before Thanksgiving it was nice to stop.Merry christmas/Happy new year all.

I'll stop by and check it out when I am up for Christmas for some skiing...provided there is some snow!!!!

By Naomi,East Lansing MI on Friday, December 7, 2001 - 10:43 am:

I hear there is hardly any snow to be seen in the Copper Country..How can this be...No snow in December!
Well hope there is a white Christmas this year......Anyone remember the year when we had a sunny and snowless Christmas..was it 1995? or somewhere around there anyway...I remember going to the carwash and it being so busy there at Kauppi on Christmas Eve.
Hope to be home for Christmas (weather permitting)

Float seen in Gay 4th of July parade: "Who the h*** is Tommy Stiglich?"

Nixon was framed, Kennedy over-rated. Just kidding Tommy.

I think I see Tarzan and Candy inside.

Barney & Holly are great host/hostesses! Cliffview is definitely one of our families favorite stops when we go to the cottage! Thanks for the picture!

Hello to all of our friends! Can we put in a request that you visit Troy & Kathy soon at The Seasons?

By JOY on Friday, December 7, 2001 - 01:07 pm:

Ken, What about the 4th of July when a group of youngins marched with a "Crabby Jack Fan Club" sign? Do you know who they were?

Flip cup LOSERS!

Of course I wasn't part of that group because I never lose in flip cup. And my undefeated streak will live on, because I, just like Voels, choose not to flip.

Hi guys, we flew up from Texas this summer and when we drove past your place was closed. I took my wife to Lake Superior. She was flabbergasted because she is from Texas and never knew how big the Great Lakes are. Hope you have a white Christmas! I am originally from Hancock.

My aunt and her boyfriend used to hang out at the Cliffview all the time in the 60s and 70s...anyone from those days who still hangs around there?

My dad, Gary, hung out at the Cliffview during deer hunting in '68 to '74, or so. He resurrected his love when I went to MTU. Now we both go hang out there. He has begun going during deer season and found another guy who he used to hunt with in the early days.
