I think Dolly Johnson was one of the first people to appear on the pages of Pasty Central, back in '96. Now the tables are turned, and Dolly is on the other side of the camera. This really captures the feel of the snowy coating we've received this week.

The last time Dolly and Rod appeared on these pages, it was a bit warmer, a bit dryer, during the walk for Alzheimer's in Houghton.

My first Winter Wallpaper for 2001! Beautiful...makes me want more of the white stuff real soon.

By Renee in IL on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 - 11:55 pm:

I have been hearing about the winter storm that hit that area. How much on the ground right now Charlie? Hope everyone is fairing well in spite of it all.
Best wishes,
Renee in IL

By Paul on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 12:01 am:

Yep, when I get into work in the morning, I'm going to use the icy scene to replace the Red, White & Blue wallpaper on one of my PC's. That should bug a number of my co-workers.

I still need to call up to the family and see what they got at Otter Lake and Pelkie.

By Bee Howard, Sarasota, FL on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 12:01 am:

The snow and ice pictures are beautiful, although I can enjoy them from Florida....but I still miss all my friends and look forward to late spring when I can rejoin them all til mid-October, Lord willing!

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 05:36 am:

Renee,

The official tally at the Snow Thermometer was only 9 inches yesterday, and it looks like we've had some more overnight. We just started updating the snow-stick page.

By Stefani, IL on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 07:42 am:

I'm homesick! Contrary to most of the people in the St. Louis area, I'm hoping for a WHITE Christmas!

By Naomi, East Lansing,MI on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 09:16 am:

Same here Stefani~~~ Most people here in East Lansing whine alot about a few inches of snow...But I love it !
I am hoping to be home in Calumet for Christmas ...weather permitting~
Well ya made me homesick...but thanks for the beautiful pic!

By Linda , Southern CA on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 10:28 am:

Beautiful!!!! ALMOST makes me long for the real stuff!

By Alice, Ventura on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 10:36 am:

Hey Linda-
I hear they are making snow up in Big Bear or other ski areas. Still isn't the same, is it? It sure was cold here in Ventura a couple of days ago! I had heard even colder than the LP.
Great pictures!

By Marc, Houghton on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 10:55 am:

Beautiful shot, Dolly!!!
It became my wallpaper, immediately and I only
wish I was home to see the first snows of winter in person. Keep up the good work:)

ps. I'm down in the Gulf of Mexico and it's about 45 degrees and looking alot like winter here, too...

By Marc, Houghton on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 11:05 am:

Hey!
Could somebody up there look up the phone number to the flower shop in downtown Houghton and post it, or email it to me? I would greatly appreciate it!

Shhh, don't tell my wife....

By Dave M, Lansing on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 01:42 pm:

What a great shot! That should be a WOW! And Naomi, it's not the ones that whine about the snow that are troublesome, it's the ones that forget how to drive in it. :)

By Naomi , East Lansing MI on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 02:32 pm:

Yea you are so right Dave.......
I think some the Lower Michigan drivers here in Lansing need some lessons from the hard core Yooper winter drivers : )
and Dale I sent you the flower shop #'s to your e-mail address!

By Naomi...again ha ha ha on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 02:40 pm:

Oops...I meant ~Marc ~not Dale~Ha ha ha....I am thinking of the flower shop's name....sorry about that!

By Kathy on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 04:02 pm:

Beautiful! Can't wait till we are in the U.P. over Christmas and New Years. Send the snow clouds to Munising.

By Sandra Lee, Pennsylvania on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 04:35 pm:

beautiful photo. I can't wait until Chee and I can visit again. You have a treasure of an area up there in the U.P. I drive around Pennsylvania with one of your bumber stickers (Say Ya to the U.P. eh) and enjoy watching the cars behind me scrunching up their faces trying to figure out what it means. Have a good season. Sandra

By Vikki Barkkari Papesh on Friday, November 30, 2001 - 03:31 pm:

Trap Rock Valley...absolutely beautiful! My great-grandparents (Barkkari) had a farm in Trap Rock Valley. Has anyone heard of them?

By Julie IN on Friday, November 30, 2001 - 04:06 pm:

No, I heard of Bekkala's and the famous Bekkala's swimming hole in the Valley. Great memories!
I believe once upon a time there was an event known as the great Traprock River canoe race????? Anyone remember that?

By #2 J kid on Saturday, December 1, 2001 - 12:28 pm:

WOW! This pix reminds me of the river that ran through my backyard as a kid growing up... Thanks Dolly for sharing it.

By Rod, MI on Saturday, December 1, 2001 - 10:21 pm:

Thanks #2 J kid. Glad you like the pic.

By Jack, Farmington Hills on Sunday, December 2, 2001 - 06:17 pm:

Can anybody tell me if this is a color or black and white picture??

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Sunday, December 2, 2001 - 10:11 pm:

Jack - It actually is a color picture, but the contrast and brightness makes it appear as gray scale. Some days are like that when the snow is coming fast.

By the way, this shot was picked as our "Wallpaper of the Week", and is available in 4 sizes over on the WOW page.

By Mary Ann Gruver Calumet Mi on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 - 02:26 am:

Why don't you list where these photos were taken???

By Sharon,In. on Thursday, January 3, 2002 - 09:23 pm:

It's the perfect picture I've been looking for! Can it be bought? I know where it is.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Thursday, January 3, 2002 - 10:26 pm:

Sharon,

We have had lots of requests lately about the availability of hi-res prints of Pasty Cam shots. We have developed the means of producing sharp, high quality matted prints of any pricture you see here in the archives - sutable for framing - and we'll be making them available soon. Email me for details.

By Barb Howell, MI on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 - 11:11 am:

Nice photograph. I'll have to ask my dad about the great Traprock Valley canoe race...he's a Bekkala. My great uncle owned the strawberry farm there. Anyone remember that?
