Backpacking to Mirror Lake in the Porcupine Mountains, I caught a little fallen color in this tiny waterfall. The water is reflecting the colors of the clear blue sky and sunlit leaves in the birches above. A peaceful scene on an Indian Summer Day.

Another great picture Dan. Your pictures often bring back great memories for me. My father would bring us to the 8 bunk cabin on Mirror Lake. We would have to walk to the stream to get water, fishing all day, playing cards by kerosene lamps at night. We would tie a string to the garbage can outside and pop cans inside so when the bear would come we would hear them and shine our flashlights at them. How about posting a picture of the rock bluffs from across the lake. The color reflecting off the lake would be spectacular I'm sure! Again, thanks for the memories Dan.

Hi Joe,

Boy, you nailed the location right on the money.
That's the creek everyone gets water from.
Sometimes we see trout spawning in it.

Some friends and I are looking for a great backpacking location, and Mirror Lake was recommended. Can anyone tell me more about its hiking trails and the terrain there and shoot that message to my e-mail address?

Also, any great backpacking recommendations within an 8-hour drive of Chicago?

Thanks.
