Talking about our old public swimming pool eh?
I remember my friends and I would stand and swim in that water until our lips were blue. Unless you had an off shore wind to warm up the sand bars.
Does anyone remeber the old urban legend of the kid that got his new car from his father, went out and partied with all of his senior pals, drove on the pier and lost control? Legend has it that his 1981 Pontiac Trans Am is still on the canal side. (good time to bring it up and restore it, since GM is going to end the firebirds and t/a's. ha, ha, ha)

White City, what a great place! I was just there last week-end when I turned my friend on to this place, he was in awe, as he's never been this far north before. We'll definitely be back!

Ahhh, one of my favorite spots to swim, what with the red rocks in the near distance, the hills/mountains in the far distance, the lighthouse close by, and the white sand underfoot! Can't wait til I'm done with school (232 days & counting) so I can come back home for good. Someone save a job for me, eh! :)

Thanks for another picture of the White City pier and lighthouse. I spent summers in Jacobsville as a kid, and had alot of fun at the beach and breakwater. I haven't been back in about 15 years, and rely on the Pasty Cam to refresh some wonderful memories. It doesn't look like there is much beach left. Has it eroded significantly?

Hey it's my brother and sister. Neat. I haven't been in the UP since my honeymoon (August). It must be nice now - we recently switched to "jacket weather" here in Chicago. Can't wait to get back. See you guys soon.

Nice to see the lower Entry light in Jacobsville. My dad worked on that pier when it was made concrete in the later 1920's. My brother and I cut the trees for the making of that road to the beach around 1965. I remember when the light was operated by the Coast Guard station, must have been the late 50's or early 60's when the light and fog horn became automated. We go to that area every summer, and also visit the light house and the beach a few times.

Thanks for sharing this picture. I used to have an awesome view of the lighthouse out our kitchen window. I sure do miss it. It has been about 5 years since I have seen it last so once again ~ thanx :) God Bless the USA

Not quite far enough back for the canoe to be birchbark, but many a year ago we would put our canoe in at the Portage entry, paddle across, climb over the breakwater and swim and picnic on the lake side. Also spent some wonderful hours with my grandmother sitting on the breakwater sketching the lighthouse.

Anne Marshal is visiting and told us to look at this marvelous site. The photographs are terriffic and we love old stuff so we probably have much in common. We live in St. Joseph MO. Anne and Dennis -my husb-and I are out the door to the garage sales this morning.

My brothers and cousins and I spent many hours on that pier when we spent each summer at our grandparents' house in Jacobsville. During the first pier walk each year, I'd usually stub my toe several times on metal bolts. After that, I'd remember what I'd learned each previous year - wear shoes on the pier!

Talk about taking me HOME!!! My Grandparents lived in Portage Entry and this was the beautiful scene that greeted us each visit. I spent plenty of time rowing across to the lighthouse and having picnics and seeing this wonderous sight after each sauna with the seagulls calling in the cool breeze...THANK YOU...!!!!!
