September is taking shape as a very compelling month of guest photos. I looked at this one a long time, wondering how this old house at Delaware can lean so much without falling down. Then I realized the boy was leaning, too. Reminds me of the "Mystery Spot" down by St. Ignace.

Doug Smith tells me that his Uncle Joe used to live in this house many, many years ago. Wonder if he ever worked in the Delaware Mine? (which we saw last week on the Pasty Cam).

This shot is perfect for today (even though Doug snapped it a few years back)... Clear blue skies and sunshine in the Keweeenaw, just warm enough for short sleeves. A few more days of summer left to enjoy.

I love old house pictures! I wonder how old this place is?? It would be neat to see if anyone has a picture of it in it's prime.
Keep up the great work! I love this site!
Best wishes,
Renee in IL

This reminds me of one of my most favorite poems, Joyce Kilmer's "The House With Nobody In It." The old houses in Delaware could most certainly tell lots of stories if houses could talk.

You can almost smell that "old wood" smell from your computer! Also, don't forget the grasshoppers that jump in front of you while walking through the tall weeds! Neat shot!!!

Be it ever so humble
There's no place like home.

Stone walls do not a prison make
Nor iron bars a cage
Yes that is so and something more
You'll find whereever you roam
That guilded walls and marble floors can never
make a home.
"BUT" in the house where love abides
And friendship is the guest
There is surely home sweet home for there the heart can rest.....

This house is in total shambles now (2005)

We've been told that the last resident was a live-in Delaware Company watchman, and that in return for favors, would let a privileged few collect on the poor rock piles.
