My backyard has been crawling with Grey Tree Frogs this week, and I finally had an opportunity to chase one down. This one parked himself on top of our porch light, in the process doing great business eating the bugs attracted to the light. He was great; so laid back that I was able to arrange him into different poses!

Why are they called Grey Tree frogs when they are green? 1) they turn grey when they mature, or 2) they change color to match their surroundings. I’m sure someone among Pasty Cam viewers has the definitive answer.

Great picture Dan. Gray treefrogs (Hyla versicolor) turn color in response to different temps.When they are in a cool area they turn charcoal gray. Put them in the sun or a warm area(your porch light) and they turn silver gray.Their habitat is moist deciduous woodlands os in scrup swamps.They feed on flies,moths,crickets and other insects so tell Cosmo not to worry. I have 5 chartreuse tree frogs suction-cupped onto my backyard picture window even as I type, cleverly awaiting those bugs and moths which come drawn like casino-gamblers to the bright lights flashing from my night-time room.
And I have another one in our flower garden who daily crawls down into a little hole at the top of our rain gauge to await those insects who fall in with the rain.
Never tell me that amphibians aren't intelligent!

My tree frogs, too numerous to count, perch above my outdoor shower and sing to me..or whatever that noise is called. The outdoor shower will stay even after the new tile shower inside is complete, weather allowing, since it will be cool to jump into after sauna! My little frog friends love it too.

Our tree frogs love the indoors; regularly hang out in the houseplants in the bathroom, the shower, on top of the toilet assembly inside the tank...the other night my man was watching TV, and one crawled across the screen. He watched its progress across various pieces of furniture, until it disappeared in the window area. I think they come in through our cat door, but we don't mind. They're pleasant little houseguests, and take care of our spider population as well!

I hope nephew, Dallas (6), is checking out this picture! A big part of his life is/has been frogs for several years now. He adopted one of these cuites on his last trip to the Copper Country, and it is doing well in "troll land" (Grand Rapids) now. Dallas, your auntie sends you loads of love.

AWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! he's so ADORABLE!!!!!! i just wanna reach out and hug him!!!!!! on my various trips to the U.P., i have found the little froggies in the forests, usually sticking close to mushrooms. i guess thats where the name "toadstool" comes from!!!

I just purchased two grey tree frogs yesterday and got their new home all set up. Their names are Nick and Jessica!:) Can't wait until they get adjusted to their new home so that I can see their different colors!

I have four gray treefrogs and 20 tadpoles

My tree frog, which I caught in Wixom, MI, just ate his first cricket in the terrarium I set up for him. He pounced from the leaf he was sitting on to the rock below and gobbled that cricket up real quick-like.
