A colorful, exciting annual event took place this evening at the Calumet Theatre... performance by the Tamburitzans, all the way from Duquesne University. Yours truly and his lovely bride were able to take in the show, for the first time in the 20+ summers we have spent in the Keweenaw.

If you EVER have the chance to see and hear this group of young artists, get ready for an amazing experience. The music, the costumes, the laughs, the energy... it was definitely an evening to remember. Joe Kirkish took a van load of the residents from Still Waters to enjoy the show at historic Calumet Theatre.

Hey... they'll be back next summer with an all new program. You know the Copper Country is a great place to be this time of year... be sure to plan ahead :o)

My 20+ summers reference was regarding our family being here all summer, about the past 14 as year-round residents. Last night when Tom Tikkanen of the Rotary introduced the show, he did mention it was the 65th consecutive year for the group to perform here.

I had him for English one quarter. Great guy.
I'll always remember when one student complained about his grade, he replied
'Hey, things are tough all over.'

Yes, Joe is still going strong. He spends a lot of time at Still Waters, reading to the residents and driving them to various events and sightseeing around the Keweenaw.

Charlie, thanks for featuring the Calumet Theatre and our 65th appearance of the Tambies. We continue to try to bring quality entertainment to the community, but it is getting more and more difficult to do so. We have a lot of needs, but none more important than paying our day-to-day expenses, which are increasing dramatically. I hope that the people who visit your site will remember the theatre, by taking out a membership, or helping in any other way, particularly if they know of any grantors or other benefactors who may be able to help us out of a tight situation. I enjoyed seeing that the Tamburitzans are still performing on their way back to PA. I remember seeing them perform in Manistique where I grew up, and what a performance it was. I even have a record of theirs. Good memories.
