As summer rolls along, we have come to the stretch with the most ideal conditions: beautiful weather, no bugs, no snow (yet). Life is good in Copper City, tucked in the heart of the Keweenaw Peninsula, down the hill from Allouez on your way to Gay.

I just got back to LA after visiting Keweenaw and people ask me why I visit the Upper Peninsula. I explain that I had to leave Keweenaw many years ago but my heart stayed there and I must go back and visit my heart as often as I can.

On this trip I happened to drive through Copper City and was surprised at how nice the town looked. Most people have maintained their houses well.

During the 30s Copper City had a bevy of beautiful teen-aged girls who often walked over to Ahmeek in the evening to the delight of the Ahmeek boys. Just a bit of history -- things like that you don't forget.

Bill.
You hit the nail on the head. I got a chance to visit my heart last week, but time passes so quickly while visiting the UP.

Exactly. I got to visit my heart a couple weeks ago. Not enough time, but soaked in enough to hold out until next time. We drove through Copper City and noticed the Post Office. (My husband's a mail carrier here) so was fun to see a picture of it!

Copper City? I lived in Laurium from 1928 thru 1941 and never heard of the place - although we passed the turn off on our way to our cottage at 5 mile point hundreds of times. Brother - Andy Lucas retired in San Diego in the 80's and moved back to the U.P. and settled in the little town of Copper City. I visit him often and wonder how I could have lived so close and never heard of it! I'm always happy when I can get back to visit family and friends. What a treasure God gave us when He created the U.P.!!!!

My father Edwin Niemi lived there for 10 years and was married to the former Luella Kramer, widow of Pap Kramer owner of the bar in that village. Now both Luella and my father passed on and I drive through on my way to Copper Harbor from Bootjack.

My Grandmother and Grandfather, Josephine and Matt Belobradich, lived at 108 Gratiot street beginning in 1922. The family house was just sold two years ago. My mother was Lil Belobradich. My father Carl Waara from Centenial Heights. Thank you pasty cam, for finally showing a picture of Copper City. I have a lot of great memories from there.
