On this beautiful, sunny morning I thought it would be good to set the record straight regarding the old photo from Doug Smith we posted Sunday. The second picture was taken just a few minutes ago.

In the intervening half-century since the first picture was snapped, a lot has changed. You can't see the courthouse gable in the second shot, because of a new tree. But even the chips on the corners of the schoolhouse steps match up. This building is now used for township meetings and a place for Houghton Twp residents to vote.

Ethel Eskola'great unkle John Ketola was the Keewenaw countysheriff back in the 1920's and had his office inthe courthouse
