Here's one for the Shoebox Memories. It's Mary Plautz (of Calumet) and her three sisters, Katherine, Rose and "Dolly", my mother, taking in one of the weekend bake sales. Mary Plautz was the mother of Dorothy Kalieta, my aunt.

Yes, you're right. Those are a few of the "Plautz Girls" that lived on 7th Street in Calumet.Brother Frank stills lives in the family house.I made a mistake though when I sent this to Charlie. From left to right, it's Maggie, Dolly (Bernadine), thier mother (Mary Strucel Plautz) and another daughter Catherine.

The ladies look vaguely familiar, but I thought I saw them in those Renaissance paintings by the masters, you know, those painters who believed truth was beauty and beauty was truth, those painters who painted ladies beautiful beyond measure, ladies who would be considered "heavy" by today's standards, but with the standards of beauty of the Renaissance, these women were/are beautiful.

Look at any Rembrandt and the like and tell me it ain't so.

My mother,Almira Eister,taught at the Eagle River school for six years. My brother Owen and I were her students for three and two years respectively. The Eagle River School and the County Building Complex are the only buildings on that side of the road. The building in the back ground "looks like" the Court House but the door way in which the ladies are standing is not the school door way. Must have been as Mark, (Kaliva Michigan) stated - Eagle Harbor.

God! My Grand Rapids cousin is smart. I would have guessed Eagle River, too, but I bow to his superior knowledge of the Copper Country. I think he should get a free pasty for his sharpness. However, I understand he makes the best pasties in Michigan so maybe a bucket of Copper Harbor blueberries would do the trick.

Frank Plautz was my driver ed teacher at Dollar Bay High in '56 or '57. How neat that his mom and sisters would show up on the pastycam! Haven't seen or heard from him since '57 when I graduated.

OK - who is right and who gets the prize? Surely, my cousin, Dean, gets top prize. Right? Even my brother, Bob, in CO agrees.

My goodness that picture stired up a lot of comments from the clan. I was going to ask if they had a brother Frank but the question was answered. We lived almost across the street from them and Frank was about same age as I am. They were a large family and am sure they knew a lot of people. You bring back lots of memories Charlie with these pictures. Keep it up and a hearty Thanks.

Looks like Eagle River Courthouse in background, it's been years since I got my 1st drivers license from Sheriff Ted Rogers, there.

These are relatives of mine, too. I've been given some of thier Pasty recipes. Yum! Some of the "clan" moved down to the "big city" of Detroit from the Calumet area long ago.
