One of those interesting Mining-era mansions... Any of our regular Cam-watchers ever stay here?

By EMH Texas on Friday, June 22, 2001 - 11:29 pm:

We have stayed there on two occasions and it is a very lovely and homey place. One year we arrived on labor-day weekend and Tech was starting the following week, there was not a motel room to be had anywhere in the area. I knocked on the door of the Garnet House and there was a cancellation for that night for which we were grateful. It was a very restful, relaxing evening. I remember as a child as we drove to Keewanaw driving past that place and I wish I lived there.

Great pic...need Laurium Manor Inn or the church on Church St (Calumet) next! :)

Almost 3 years ago Laurium Manor Inn first appeared on the Pasty Cam. There is a wealth of Copper Country sights to be found in the archives, accessed through the 4 year calendar on the main Pasty Cam page.

Where is Garnet House? It looks like it would
be a very pleasant place to stay. Do they also
serve meals, I mean for folks who aren't staying
overnight?

We usually stay with family friends in Laurium
when we're in the Keeweenaw, but it would be nice
to have a backup.

Bill -

Garnet House is across the street from the Hut, on US-41 in Kearsarge. The phone number in the directory is (906)337-5607. Tell them you saw it on the Pasty Cam :o)

Toivo,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. You know,
I think that the last time I was in the Keeweenaw
during tourist season was back in 1983. Recent
visits have all been in the fall, winter, or
early spring, when most tourist oriented places
aren't open.

We've eaten at the Hut with our friends two or
three times, and we've commented on the lovely
house across the road. But we thought that it
was a private residence, as there was no B&B
sign in front when we were there.

Pasty Central is one of our favorite Web sites,
and we especially enjoy looking at the pictures
and comments. We have a little boy who turned
three last March, and he really likes the pictures
of young children.

He's only been to the Keeweenaw once so far,
a year ago last May, but we're looking forward
to future visits.

I was born in Hancock, and lived in Houghton
until age seven. I sure wish we didn't live
so far away now.

Thanks again, & best regards to all of you at
Pasty Central!
