Although it was sunny this week in the Copper Country, it has still been a bit chilly. Keeps the bugs away. Mr. Sarvala took advantage of these ideal conditions with hook and net out toward the southern end of the Portage Canal.

Daryl Laitila captured Fisherman Frank for the Pasty Cam as she walked back along the pier from the South Entry Lighthouse. Incidentally, Daryl is one of the support-line regulars for our PastyNET membership, our Internet dial-in service for the Keweenaw. We've all been busy this week hooking up the "snow-birds" returning for the summer. Give us a call if you're looking for an Internet Service Provider in the Copper Country (from Chassell to Painesdale to Copper Harbor and all points in between). 337-5979, or if you're out of the area, toll free 1-800-897-5268.

We can help hook you to the 'Net :o)

is that a good spot for fishing? what can you catch off of there?

Did you by any chance catch any of the numerous red devil lures I lost off that breakwater in the 50's???

Ahh! How many times my cousins & I jumped off that lighthouse!! What the heck were we thinking?
(Obviously, we weren't!!)

We used to jump off that lighthouse, too. We'd also hide in the woods next to that pier when the Ranger came through on its Portage Canal tours. As the boat passed, we'd all run out of the woods, dive off the pier, and swim toward toward the tourists, who waved and took pictures.

With the currents and the metal pieces that peel of the pier, I'd also say that there wasn't too much brainpower used before we did that.

I used to round the bend beyond the lighthouse at the end of that pier many times in my youth when my Dad & Uncle fished commercially in Keweenaw Bay and still get goosebumps when I stand on the shore in Portage Entry (my true home!) and gaze out to the long pier and lighthouse, or cruise past it in a boat. Thanks for the reminder of a very special place for me and my family!
