This week my wife and I had a quick trip downstate, paying Governor Engler's office a little visit. On our return, as we drove past some of the mining ruins on Quincy Hill, I remarked how rough the winter is on the old buildings. By coincidence, Daryl Laitila had emailed me today's shot, in which she gives us a look at another mining era structure damaged by the weight of the snow.

The winters really are pretty rugged here in the U.P.... But having a little taste of lower Michigan traffic this week, we'd rather stay right here by the big Lake.

It's good to be back home.

Looking Buff Jarrid!(Subway Diet)! Anyone heard any testamonials from Pastie dieters.

By WhiskeyCreek on Sunday, May 6, 2001 - 07:28 pm:

I understand that if you eat a regular diet of Pasties but forgo the crust and meats and eat only the Rutabaga portion that you will lose all weight gained over the Christmas/Easter seasons.
However, it is difficult to find a full time Yooper who can verify this. Martha Stewpot is thought to be running tests on it though.

What's with this dieting thing with Pasty? Good pasties were always made with crust made of LARD. It gaurenteed a good case of heartburn and when you burped you could still get the smell of the CELERY SALT you laced on the pasty, which is the only way to eat pasties.

Does Anybody know if the Laurium Glacier has melted yet? Let's see the Pasty Cam snatch a picture of that!

By John Dee, Lake Linden on Monday, May 7, 2001 - 11:12 am:

Luke,

It is still there, but is shrinking. I will snap a shot of it on the way to physical therapy this afternoon and post it on my journal.

Looks like this weekend or early next week will the date.

I remember when school was already out for the summer and the 'Laurium Glacier' was still there.
Was attending the Lake Linden H. S. then. Let's
see......'bout1953 or'54. Helped with planting the strawberries on the Tikkanen farm.

In spite of Gov. Engler I STILL have great memories of the Copper Country.....please don't despoil the sanctity of this ethereal site with anything political....
