Not much time to write... I'm on my way to the post office, too. (Don't you just love tax day?)

In case you haven't checked in lately, browse over to Brimmages.com to have a visual feast from the U.P.

...the perfect compliment to a pasty feast :o)

Ice has to be one of the most interesting subjects I photograph. It is also one that is somewhat difficult to understand. How this intricate form is created I have no idea. This shot is of a pattern created in melting lake ice. You can also see some rocks and sticks through the hole.

Looks like a satellite photo of prime real estate.

Cindy, you are so right! My first thought before scrolling down was that if this shot were taken from high above, it would be indistinguishable from some northwoods lake.
Aint Nature, at levels micro-to-macro, a wonderful thing?
Beautiful shot, Steve!

I remember a photo of a huge sign recording the snowfall up there. Just wondering if the most recent snow set a record for you folks?

I'm a daily visitor and have enjoyed your U.P. snow from the comfort of my armchair down here in Hanover County, Virginia, where we only accumulated several inches this winter. But it was certain we wouldn't have much snow-- since I jinxed us by buying snow boots and a sled for my 8-year old son. However, they are predicting flurries tomorrow! Snowfall in April in Virginia??...imagine that.

This is the "in-between" time of the seasons where you think there isn't alot to take pictures of. The snow is almost gone, the grass is now brown and it's kind of ugly out sometimes. We just need to stop, go slower and look down. Steve's photo is proof.

Hey Deb in Virginia -

There is a picture of the Snow Thermometer on the Pasty Central home page. In the center column, under the photo link to the pasty-cam and to the left of the picture of someone making pasties is a link to the snow thermometer page. Has updated snowfall totals for the year as well as last year's numbers.

Only 298.3 inches so far this year. Just 92.1" shy of the record! But there's still plenty of time for more snow up there...

Cameron,
sssshhhhhhhh, don't tell Heiki Lunta. We really don't need any more snow up here, record or not! It's spring for goodness sake! At least the calendar says it is. :)

Using this as wallpaper, people passing my desk think it's the glass of a broken monitor. ;)
