Clearing up some old disks, and I ran across this. I think Jonathan took it, but he's not around... Anybody ever seen it? By the other pictures grouped with it, I get the impression it's in the southern U.P.

Do we have any viewers in Split Rock?

Lots of rocks split on the Amasa stretch between Crystal Falls and Covington, but don't remember this one. Also some around the Michigamee area--years fade memories, but the landscape remains in memory. Am I even close???

It's somewhere between Florence, WI & Crystal Falls, MI, on US 41. Or is it 141? Anyway, it's near a little bar/gas station with an old snowmobile on the roof. HAPPY EASTER!!

Yes, I've driven by this many times...I believe it's on the road between Iron River and Crystal Falls. There's no town called Split Rock...the highway department apparently decided to put a green sign there to make it famous. It's quite a unique sight!!

Thanks for the familiar shot

HAPPY EASTER, Thanks for the memories.

Our family has vacationed up in the Florence/Crystal Falls area since I was little. The split rock is on US 2 between Florence and Crystal Falls, near Bruno's Mobil station.

Happy Easter.

Sure this if familiar! It's a great reminder that the turn for the George Young Golf Course is coming up.

This "Split Rock" in definately in the U.P. It is located just south of Crystal Falls as you travel towards the WI border on US 2 / 141. It is right at the intersection of 424 which turns to Alpha, MI.

About a year or so ago, there had been controversy as what should be done with this landmark (one reason being the tree is dead). The Crystal Falls newspaper was looking for different ideas/suggestions and not sure if anything has ever been decided.

split rock is in Wisconsin just south of Tigerton and Wittenberg , I'm pretty sure that is where that sign is from , don't know how it got on the pasty cam maybe a yooper wannabe????

Yep it's in the U.P. Drive by every time we go to Iron Mountain. It's on US 2 and 424 right before Brunos gas station on the way to Crystal Falls. By the way the little gas station and bar with the snowmobile on top is called the "Headquarters".

Interestingly enough I used to live right by split rock, how wierd to see it on the internet.

IT IS ON 41/141 BETWEEN CRYSTAL FALLS, MI AND FLORENCE, WI.

Tree is dead? Who won then, the rock or the tree?

By julwisc on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 01:54 pm:

We have a tree growing out of the middle of a rock on our property near Eagle Harbor, although the rock isn't as large as the one pictured here.

I recall this rock from when I lived in da great white north. It's just south of Crystal Falls on the way to Iron Mountain. It's a shame the tree died, but it's still quite a sight.
