On my way out for a quick lunch between classes, we heard sirens. Coming down the hill was a parade of fire trucks from the Houghton City Fire Station. Houghton Police stopped traffic while 4 or 5 trucks made their way to the Chem-Sci building. Must have been a fire of some sort on the 4th floor. Hope nobody was hurt.

Any of our MTU visitors know the details?

Today at Tech

From what I am told it was a bad light fixture in one of the labs. Just smoke no fire.

A light exploded, someone had to call public safety, who in turn dispatched the FD, much todo about nothing...

The story about the light exploding at Tech reminded me of a similar experience I had while teaching a TV production class quite a few years ago. A student had brougnt in a dog to make a public service announcement for the Humane Society. I was worried the dog might have an "accident." However, the student said it would be fine. While the scene was being shot, a large light exploded with a very large bang. The dog was fine, but I almost "lost it."
