This house, located in Hancock, was the girlhood home of Mary Chase Perry. Pewabic Pottery was founded in 1903 by Mary Chase Perry (later Mary Chase Perry Stratton) and her partner, Horace Caulkins (developer of the Revelation Kiln), at the height of the Arts & Crafts movement in America.

The Pottery's first home was a stable on Afred Street in Detroit. Four years later, Pewabic Pottery moved to a new facility on East Jefferson designed by architect William Buck Stratton in the Tudor Revival Style. In 1991, the building (which still houses the pottery) and its contents were designated a National Historic Landmark and today is Michigan's only historic pottery. I visited the Pewabic Pottery website - it's an absolute gem of the Arts and Crafts movement. Great picture - where exactly is this house located, and who lives there now?

Nobody lives in the house now. I believe the City of Hancock or some other group has started to restore it to make it into a museum. They started working on it last fall. It is located right across from the Copper Crown Motel in Hancock.

Glad to hear that some one is trying to save the old house. I've stayed at the Copper Crown a few times and thought it was so sad to see it so run-
down. I love those old houses. Lived in Paavola as a kid.

I just acquired a "Revelation School Kiln, Model Amatuer #2". Bass tag #9473 is screwed onto its door. The number is either a property inventory number or the actual production number. Could anyone shed more light on the model- production age, any archival information such as instruction for use, other possible sources of information. Thanks.

How is the renovation on the inside of the house coming
along? Are items being collected for the museum?

I have a piece of pottery that I've been trying to find some information on. It is a teapot and the only information on the piece is inside a mark it says REVELATION MADE IN , I unfortunately cannot make out where it was made. If anyone out there can give me some info, I would greatly appreciate it!
