Wow! That's a pile of snow to melt. How long will that take?

Almost 300 inches this winter! Last week da' sno-go came through Eagle River and turned the streets into Canyons, exposing the geological ages through the mountains which still surround the town. Makes drivin' a challenge. (Up periscope!).

Pasty Central is still offering the March snowbird special: a dozen tasty U.P. pasties hand-delivered to ANY warm climate (only $850.00). A sure cure for cabin fever - (for the webmaster, that is, who has offered to make good on those shipments). I hear not many takers so far :o( - - Perhaps this is due, in part, to the Airborne guy who lives in Calumet. He'll carry a dozen for 67 bucks!

Should I ask him to bring along ketchup or gravy?

In some of the shady spots we've seen the snow actually last until June.

De-ja-vue I had taken a very simiar photo of my Jeep CJ-7 alongside a UP snowplow bank when living in Marquette in the early 90s. It looks like weather conditions have not changed much since I've moved away ;) Thanks for the memories.

Thanks for showing that our house is still standing despite the snow. I guess I won't volunteer to get mother's car out of the garage anytime soon. Have the deer started eating the top of the apricot trees yet?

<Charlie>: Yes, the deer have a bad case of the munchies these days, and the small trees and shrubs are fair game. By the way, this weekend was the Spring Ladies Retreat here in town at Gitche Gumee. Beautiful weather for a crowd of about 160 ladies, mostly from the U.P. They almost outnumbered the deer ;o}

My children and I had a snowlball fight in the woods on the 4th of July while living at Tamarack Location (Calumet) in the late 60s (69-71). Quite an experience for them after returning from the Philippines. I have wintered in SD, Ak, Me, and upstate NY but the UP takes the prize for snow. Maine was the coldest, Alaska and South Dakota the windiest (Excluding Washington DC when the politicians are in session).

Last week someone mentioned the robins were in Texas (I think). Well now they're 420 miles due south of Houghton. They got here (50 miles west of Chicago) yesterday in droves-er flocks. Clear 'em some spots to land cuz they were gone this mornin'. I'll be a few months behind them but I'll be there. Happy spring!

Should have taken the picture when the banks were really high. Looks like quite a bit of melting already happened here. I passed by here after the snow-go went through and you couldn't see that sat-dish. Heard their reception was poor until some snow melted.

I have seen a lot of amazing things since coming online three years ago, but since meeting my net pals who live in Calumet, the amount of snow they get would have to be the most amazing thing yet! I am in rural Australia, and it never snows here at all. Some day I will visit my friends, see the snow (and help em shovel it!)

Look at the pristine purity of da UP! Here in Milwaukee the snowbank would also show scattered debris and litter as well as a layer of litter at the bottom. Oh, to have the cleanliness and beauty of da UP!

BTW, it's time for new snow when the blacktop turns white and the white snow is black.

Good Morning Folks and Please Stop the Tomfoolery!

We have a place on Five Mile Point, as mentioned in a communication last week, and I am itching to get up there and do some work. Spring arrives tomorrow. It is interesting what you folks can do with a camera to make us believe most anything. Whoever saw a snowbank higher than a jeep on March 19th in the State of Michigan?!?!?!

No kidding folks I want to get some work done. Any volunteers to shovel my driveway?

Well what a amazingly long winter it has been...It looks like Spring is arriving now!
I am looking forward to being back home!!!!!!!..Ya cant beat the feeling of spring fever in the U.P. after all this snow!!!
This is the time of year when everyones car looks a funny shade of white and grey from all the road salt....Time to all to find out what hidden beneath and head out to the car washes!!

Does a day ever pass when you yoopers don't realize how lucky you are? Living in country so beautiful must keep you happy 24-7. I can't wait for the future, when I can trade the salt, 40 degree temperatures, and drifting dirt of Northwest Ohio for a place like the U.P.
