We've been reminiscing here at Pasty Central. Each day for the last 3 years we have brought you a glimpse of life in the U.P... usually a shot of current conditions, scenery, people, etc. But we have had a growing interest in historical images of the region. Two good examples are: 1)"Copper Country Reflections", by Chuck Voelker - with fascinating panoramas of the mining days, and 2) a popular website which joined us late last year, HistoricalCalendars.com, who provided the shot above.

In year #4 of the Pasty Cam, perhaps we can explore "then" and "now" from various points of view around the U.P.

We would love to hear your ideas as we continue this daily journey.

Your idea to "explore" sounds wonderful!!! The more I learn about my Copper Country pioneer forebears the more I am truly impressed at all they did just to survive. They were truly magnificent people.

Congratulations on the longevity of your website, especially when so many "dot-coms" are shutting down recently. Your great pictures are a clever way to make us think about pasties every day. Judging by the pasty sales counter on your home page, there must be lots of exiled yoopers not content just to think about it.

Get a shot of the water hazard on the golf course at Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. Some day I'll get over it.

Your longevity, proves your SISU!

Photographs of Houghton and Keweenaw from the 1950's and 1960's would be very interesting. That period of time was when the mining company was still operating. It was a time when local family businesses thrieved and the people were very close.

How about a historical picture of miners eating the "original" pasty at work in the mines? The ones I ordered from you were good, but I imagine they would taste even better after a long shift in the shaft. I also echo the request for a "then and now" series of pasty-cam shots. Maybe it could be a new feature to add to the site like the WOW and the end of the month memorial.

How about some pictures of Quincy or Franklin Mine place known as both names. 2 mines up there "on the hill" as it was known many moons ago.

Re: your historical ramblings.

Check out the four books by Louis Reiman, especially "When Pine Was King". Very earthy portraits of the UP in the late 1800's/early 1900's.
