As the winter grinds on, the deer become a little friendlier in some of the smaller outlying towns. I'm not sure where Dan Urbanski clicked this Cam shot, but it could well have been out our back door at Eagle River. We must have about 200 of these babies in town.

The caption with the smaller picture eludes to the weather in Florida... I just heard a report that some Interstate highways were closed there today because of grass fires. Wondering if any of our regular visitors were effected by it?

I'll vouch for you Charlie. We were up in Eagle River & Eagle Harbor about a month ago and saw at least 100 deer in Eagle River and on the shoreline road to Eagle Harbor. There were so many in the town of Eagle River and they seemed so surprised to see us! Then every time we came around a curve in the road, there were more. It was really neat to see. They're so beautiful.

Looks like that beast is fairing quite nicely this late in the season . (that's a good thing) !!!

The deer sure have eaten the leaves off my holly bushes this winter. Oh well, they've got to eat too. Which reminds me I've got to get that vension roast out of the freezer for tommorow's supper.

Hi, Charlie. We are wintering in Ft. Myers, and there are fires all around. Fortunately, none have come close to us, but the main problem is lack of rain. Although winter is the dry season, it started quite a bit earlier this year, and there are many water usage restrictions now, as we have reached conditions usually seen in May. The fires are due in part to this dry spell, and it takes very little to start them. Sometimes a cigarette thrown out a car window or even the exhaust from cars can be enough to start a blaze. Needless to say, we look forward to our return to the north country and pray that things get better down here. Say a prayer for those who have lost their homes during this terrible ordeal. I'm sorry to say that arson is also suspected in many of these instances.

A beautiful shot, Dan! Glad it was with a camera!
I am lucky enough to have deer visit my backyard each winter, love looking at them but my photos can't even come close to yours! Even had to pre-empt the Lake picture from Copper Harbor for this one for my wallpaper.

Adding to Lani's message from Ft. Myers....we live in Sarasota, approximately a good hours's drive North of Lani's and we were saturated with heavy smoke Sunday morning on our way to church. Wind was blowing South bringing smoke from Orlando area fires. That is about 2-1/2 hrs North off us. A main highway I-4 was closed for 20 miles and I-75 has been having closed areas. We have lived here for 50 years (going to the Keewanee June to Oct, summers.) We have been fighting for water reserves and preservation most of that time....maybe when we are finally down to the last drop our commissioners will do something besides "talk" about it. We have water savers on our showers, cut showering time. do not flush, UNLESS necessary, turn the water off while brushing our teeth and other methods of preservation. IF everyone would do that, it would really help! That said...Thank you for the lovely picture of the deer...just so peaceful and beautiful in that setting.....ah...spring is not too far off!

Great picture Dan! I've seen quite a few deer myself and have been closer to them then ever in my life. They are very friendly. However, I heard on the news this morning that they are overpopulated in some areas and are being killed off via sharp shooters. I suppose it's better then starving to death. Although it sounded as though they were more of a road hazard then anything else. It's too bad but I guess that's the way it has to be sometimes.

looks like Bambi has the plant next to her pruned rather nicely

My wife, Susan, got caught on I4 last Saturday when it was closed due to fire and smoke near Lakeland. She spent a couple extra hours getting off the freeway, and finding a back roads way back to Orlando.

God has truly blessed us with plenty of snow and water in the North.

Deer is in great shape. Nice to see. Out here we have Blacktail deer, somewhat smaller than the whitetail. A frequent visitor here is this guy:

He is now about 3/4 grown and I think his mother
finally shook him off.
Keep up the great pictures!

What a beautiful photo! Glad to see that the deer is doing well during the winter.

'Bambi' does look nice here, but not so nice bouncing off the hood of my car. My bumper, hood, grille, and left front fender are a wrinkled
shambles from 'incidents' with 10 deer over the
last two years. :o( :-( I have replacements for
it, but what's the use? (Actually, I'm waiting
for some warmer weather.) Besides, the Mazda 626
has only 256,000 miles on it. It's REALLY broke
in!!! Runs like a fine Swiss watch!
