Here in Ontonagon County we've had an invasion of goldfinches. There are at least 150 in the flock that visits my feeder, so many that even the woodpeckers and blue jays get the creeps and exit when they arrive.

Enjoyed the picture of the birds. We haven't had many birds at our feeders this winter, and hope they will return to them soon. It is always enjoyable to see what kind come to the feeders.

There's about 50-60 goldfinches along with nuthatches, woodpeckers, chickadees, bluejays, sparrows, starlings, (already!), not to mention
chipmunks, red squirrels and whitetail deer
that keep my feeders empty. I have one with
thistleseed and two with black oil sunflower
seed. They keep a guy busy but they sure are
a lot of fun to watch.

It has been a blessing to feed and watch the birds this winter. Spring is just around the corner, and the return of the Robins, Blue birds,Sun and warmer weather.

Reminds me of the bird feeder at my grandparents house in portage entry. My grandfather always took special care with it (the birdfeeder was home made out of an old dog dish)...

We are enjoying the finches, but would like to know the best way to treat the seeds so they won't sprout when they hit the ground. Have heard you can bake them in the oven or microwave, but don't know the details. Would appreciate any info. Thanks.
