Red sky at morning, sailors take warning... and Texan's take pictures, this one captured by Al Romig of Houston. Jim Floriani sent it along to the Pasty Cam, and mentioned that Al was a guest recently at "Donavan's Reef", a cabin on Lake Superior.

Just past Agate Harbor on your way north (and east), Lake Glazon is located between the Brockway Ridge and M-26. On the other side of the highway, the rocky shore has a little more padding these days.

Wonder where the blackflies go this time of year?

By Jean Mi. on Wednesday, February 7, 2001 - 07:18 pm:

Dear Charlie I think that I have the answer to your question, "Wonder where the blackflies go this time of year?"

Blackflies have four primary life stages: egg, larvae, pupae, and
adult. The females lay several hundred tiny, triangular eggs in fast
flowing, relatively unpolluted water. Depending on water
temperature, eggs hatch in a matter of days. Blackflies spend most
of their life in the larval and pupa stages. They transform into adults
during mid-April until early July, but the adults only live for a week
or two. The adult flies are strong fliers, and can fly 15 miles from the
streams where they emerge to find food. So I think that the blackflies are now in the pupa stage clinging to the vegatation in the streams of the U.P. waiting for spring! I think it is time to find the insect repelant.

We are possibly moving to the UP and would love to hear from people about what it is like. Our email address is Kathrene_Conway@aardvark.com. My husband is interviewing for a job at Michigan Tech, and I am a computer programmer. Among other things, we are wondering what the computer programming job market is like.

This makes me so homesick!!!

By Kristi, TX on Thursday, February 8, 2001 - 10:55 am:

I am writing to second Stefani's statement. As a native Yooper who only gets to go home once a year, the pasty cam gives me a constant reminder of what I'm missing.
I wish we could move back but it looks like Houston is stuck with us for a while longer.

Thanks to a MIkkola from New Boston Location I was treated to this photo of a U.P. Sunrise. So love going to visit relatives in Kearsarge every summer and the most beautiful of places. My father was born in Ahmeek--His mother raised on Bumbletown Hill--Pietila. Maybe one day I will live the ideal life--8 months in U.P. and 4 months in The Florida Keys HMMMM
