The thing I enjoy the most about these daily visits to the Pasty Cam, is the constant variety of scenes which contributors email us... and the feel of the U.P. which these sights inspire. Today's view from the lens of Steve Brimm is a good example.

Have you ever stood at the water's edge at Copper Harbor? Not too far from here we've often spent the evening watching fireworks over the Harbor in July. A little farther up the road US-41 begins... One October mid-day we drove beyond the end of the road, exploring the muddy logging trails in our 4-wheel drive. And then there was that time in May... changing a flat tire in the roadside park, hardly able to breath for the black flies.

As we stand here on this January afternoon... no black flies... no mud... no fireworks. Just a break between the winter storms, a peaceful moment to admire the pines and imagine living in that cabin.

Think I'll put another log on the fire.

Is one of the buildings a sauna?

My sister-in-law's family (Tormala) fished Superior our of this bay for many a year--probably not this time of year, tho!

Not sure if I have this location correct - if you turned the camera to the right far enough would you see the dock where the Isle Royale Queen is docked in the summer?

By David Biedenkopf Indianapolis IN on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 - 02:01 am:

I had my boat in this little cove last summer. The water was so clear you could see bottom everywhere, even some small fish and plenty of ducks. This is the same area as where you can get the boat to Isle Royale, just about behind the person taking the picture. Keep the pictures coming. We love them.

Can't wait to get back up there. This is right near where my wife and I stay every September.

For Rose above: don't you mean the "Bile Royale Queen"! That's why I take the Ranger out of Houghton! Ha! Besides, the Ranger serves pasties on board from the Suomi.

I have been on Web site for 5 and a half hours today. I enjoyed the pictures on the site. Makes me want to get back to the UP. I will visit everyday now. A Yooper friend told me of the site.

Yes, Charlie. That is what is so special about the pictures...it gives us the "feel" of the UP. Even though I didn't grow up there (grew up in Detroit), I learned to love it during many summer vacations.

Never experienced the winters in the UP, but the pictures are still beautiful. One picture, either last week or the week before, with the sun shining in an incredibly blue sky, touched a memory of the crisp winter and dry air, when the world seems to rest between snowfalls.

Duck Island is located off the waterfront in Copper Harbor in front of a motel. It is accessible by a foot bridge. It is private property and a family summer retreat.

What a beautiful picture! Brings back so many memories. My father ran a charter fishing service off of the dock which overlooked this little bay. I grew up in Copper Harbor in the summers - God's country.

Great Picture
Our cabin, which is next to the one in the picture-one of five at this location, will be for rent this summer... it is a true paradise. I can't say more, well I guess I could, but will have an ad with Pasty.com soon...For summer lease info email dblharbor@aol.com for more...

For Cathy from Wheaton, Ill. above: It must be that time of the month, or else you just have a major negative attitude, but you really should try enjoying life alot more! Your "bile" attitude we could do without. Now we realize why Yuppers call you people from Illinois FIBS! If you're not familiar with what this stands for, next time you're invading the UP, ask around. You have personally earned your nickname!

By Pauline, Arkansas on Saturday, February 3, 2001 - 10:51 am:

Julie, in Indiana, Writting from Arkansas former Yooper, then In. now Ar. Good to know all us miss the U.P. Love the pictures don't you?

By Bob from FIB land on Wednesday, February 7, 2001 - 12:11 pm:

To Lee,

I'd venture to say that nobody has ever accused you of being an SOB - Sweet Old Boy!
