Always in the search of unique U.P. animal photos, I was pleased to find these in my Inbox. They were sent in by Tom Stephens, from Munising. He has a Stealth Camera set up at quite a scenic spot in the Alger County forest. It's not that often we get to see a doe feeding her young up that close and I'm thinking the second picture is Daddy Buck, who was perhaps scoping out the area to make sure it was 'all clear' for his family the next morning. (Humor me on that one!). Kind of reminds you of 'Bambi', doesn't it?

Good Morning to all in the beautiful U. P.
Will be flying up to se you everyone tomorrow night for a long weekend visit.
Keep the coffee warmed up for me.

had our coffee on the dock this morning. September is beautiful...

By Marssha, Genesee/Aura on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 08:07 am:

OK, here's a question I know someone can answer for me. I have a Kodak Easy-Share digital camera. When I edit my photos and save them and then transfer the saved, edited photo to my gallery, the edited photo doesn't transfer, only the original one does. Help!

Cute photo today!

By Rose on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 08:18 am:

Marsha: When you edit the photo with the EasyShare software are you rembering to Save the edited photo when you are done? Or are you simply closing out the edit page? It can help to save it under another name after editing.

By Skylar in Wi on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 08:32 am:

Morning all. I wish I was back up there this week. Looking forward to our 3 day weekend up there in October. Later, Skylar.

By camwatcher on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 08:44 am:

My apologies for the huge photo. I hope Mary Drew comes along and edits that post out. I guess we learn by our mistakes. I found a small, free, program that quickly resizes JPG's for use on the internet so this won't happen again. http://www.virtualzone.de/files/?product=resizer
I am a little afraid to re-post a photo after that blooper above...but here goes.

Sunrise2

Editor's note: When you're uploading pictures to the Cam notes, just make sure your picture is no wider than 560 pixels, it'll fit just fine then. Nice sunrise! :->

By DebDiver on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 08:47 am:

lovely photo camwatcher regardless of the size.
;o)

By camwatcher on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 08:59 am:

Thank you DebDiver. Nice to see the huge one gone and the page back in order.
Beautiful day here today. Should be in the 80's today and tomorrow. Ahh...Poor kids in school must be wishing they were still outdoors enjoying it all. The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts a very heavy snow this winter with a hot dry summer for 2005.

By Bob on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 09:47 am:

Morning everyone,

I uploaded 10 shots last night from our
weekend camping at Copper Harbor.

Most of them playing around with my macro zoom, and the obligatory sunset photo on brockway. ;-)

By shelly/Yankee in Texas on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 10:25 am:

Good Morning to y'all~

We are having nice weather today here in Houston. :)

I love the pictures of the deer, very nice. Anyone know why Sharons web cam looks like its pointing into her house?

By Kate, CA on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 11:00 am:

I love seeing the photo of the doe and fawn, great shot.Is it just me or does the doe look thin? I sure hope she's able to add some conditioning to her bony frame before winter sets in. See how much bonier she looks than the buck? The fawn looks really healthy.

By Dr. Nat in Nevada on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 11:19 am:

Good morning everyone!
It's yet another sunny and hot day down here.
Nice photos today!
Camwatcher: beautiful shot. Sunrise and sunset have always been my favorite times of day.

By pk, West Bend, WI on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 11:24 am:

The Granite Island Lighthouse web cam hasn't been coming
in lately. Does anyone know why? It's on my usual "route"
of web cams (Grand Canyon; Sitka, Alaska; Grand Tetons
are among others).

Hi all
Nothing to do with deer, but Michigan Tech and the Keweenaw are mentioned in today's Earth Science Picture of the Day.

Good afternoon everyone. Just ten more days and my wife and I will be in Copper Harbor for our annual two weeks or R & R! Soon I'll be counting hours, not days!!

By Melissa , Westland MI on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 12:07 pm:

Everytime I come here to look at the pictures, I just about cry at work from homesickness. I am not from the Keweenaw but I went to school there for 5 years at da Tech. I miss it. We are not taking our annual trip up there this year because we are getting married. I don't know if I can wait until Carnival to return. Thanks for the glimpses.

Kathy from Whitmore Lake:
Thanks for letting me know about the Earth Science Picture of the Day. Today's picture was a pleasant surprise for me. I have been one of the instructors of the Teachers Earth Science Institute for three years now. It brought a smile to my face to see a photo of my students.

By yooperdeb on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 02:33 pm:

Dang, the bridge cam captured the bridge just starting to open up for the Ranger coming in. By the time it refreshes again, it will be docked. Every time I hear the Ranger whistle, I keep checking but have yet to catch it on the bridge cam. (I know, I know, I must not working hard enough).

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 02:44 pm:

Re: my earlier post--Rose, I do save the pictures and under a different name to make sure I transfer the right one, but the unedited picture comes through! Thanks for your tips anyway!

By maijaMI on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 03:16 pm:

The mother deer does look emaciated. My dear friend in Gwinn feeds "his deer" with sunflower seeds. They will stand by his house and look at the windows, like, "Where are the sunflower seeds?" Anyway, these deer, several does and two twin fauns, look healthy and fit. Hope this doe will make it thru winter.

By DH, Temecula, CA on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 03:33 pm:

Marsha,

I've never used the Kodak imaging software, but wonder if there isn't an 'export' vs 'save'. I think some packages may keep the original image around with information about what you've done to it so it can be 'undone'. With an export you write a new file which corresponds to what you see on the screen.

Dave.

By ccfan on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 03:35 pm:

hope this doe doesn't have chronic wasting disease.
Has the Michigan DNR found it in the UP yet? It's only a
matter of time.

By Janie, IA. on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 03:45 pm:

In reguards to mother deer looking thin...perhaps it should be weaning time for baby. Baby maybe "pulling" mother down by milking more than what mom is able to produce. Mother Nature will help out.

By SDC, Ferndale, MI on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 03:49 pm:

Has the baby bear been dining at Sharon's bird feeder lately???

By Rose on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 04:10 pm:

Truthfully, I don't do editing with the Kodak software anymore. It is very glitchy and slow. I ususally just save the photos to another folder on my HD and use Adobe Photoshop. There is tons of photo editing software on the Internet. Even the free ones are better than Kodak's.

By ert, GA on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 04:43 pm:

Female animals often get quite thin near the end of their nursing time. Baby should be eating lots of grass now and slowly quit nursing so much.

This is a perfect time for me to ask, when is the best time to visit the Autumn Foliage? Would Oct 8th be too late? Am thinking of taking a trip to Iron Mtn. Michigan.

By J, chassell on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 05:56 pm:

I think the best time for a color tour is the first weekend of Oct. Oct. 8 should still be just fine. I have noticed several colorful trees already. Enjoy. I am wondering, will Bohemia be offering the $5 lift rides this fall? We went there last year and it was spectacular.

By Capt. Paul in Nevada on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 06:48 pm:

At the rate the weather is going in the Keweenaw, there may be no leaves and a foot of the white stuff by October 8; hey, just in time for Tech hockey season to start again........

By Rose on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 07:09 pm:

www.accuweather.com is predicting a nice week. In the low 70's to low 80's with overnight temps in the high 50's. I want to believe that one ! But I keep the jacket handy. LOL

By Mistyinyoureyes on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 - 07:35 pm:

I will believe it when I feel the heat and not before!!

........
THANK YOU FROM NANUES AUNTIE! Some of the family has spoken to him and he is doing as well as can be expected. We've all been worried sick about him being gone but have every confidence and great pride in his ability as a marine. We were pleased to get good news, he is already pulling shenanigans with the nurses and says they are cute. Come home soon Nanue... 'heads up stick on the ice'!!! Or 'head down, in the sand', which ever keeps you safest.
I am so proud of you Nanue Bob...love,
your auntie

By Andytofu, Sedar Bay on Thursday, September 2, 2004 - 03:36 am:

My prayers and best wishes for Lance Cpl. Nanue Houl's speedy recovery. My God bless all of our troops wherever they are.

Note to Pat Roberts: Don't know if you got to Sedar Bay on your trip to the UP, but I arrived home on Thursday at 1:30 and found your phone message which was total static so your message wasn't understandable. Your comments via e-mail will be appreciated. Thanks to Pasty.net for giving me the chance to communicate my message. AČ
