What some kids won't do for attention... Jenn Stigers and her friends are holding a good old-fashioned sit-in while we speak, up at the Pines Resort in Copper Harbor. It's their way of helping the effort to raise the money needed to buy Hunter's Point and preserve it as a park in Grant Township.

Hunter's Point
You can read about the project at the Hunter's Point website, with hosting donated by Pasty.NET. The sit-in was also reported in yesterday's Daily Mining Gazette.

Many Pasty Central visitors have helped the effort by making contributions online. As this picture was snapped, several people walked by and dropped a buck or two into Jenn's box. If you'd like to do the same over the WWW, just follow this link.

Hopefully Jenn and her crew will continue to enjoy clear and sunny weather until next Tuesday :o)

Good morning! First post of the day!

Maybe from this hemisphere, but you were edged out by Dave in the land of the pyramids. That will cost you a buck.

Good Morning

Hope the weather hold up for the sit - in...

I am curious if there is a bakery in the UP that makes Kringle???

By Dave, Cairo on Saturday, August 7, 2004 - 08:49 am:

Charlie - To show you my sportsmanship, for beating out Chris, I just kicked in a ten spot for the cause.

Chris, try again tomorrow, I'll be in the desert and away from the computer. :-)

By Justin - Esky on Saturday, August 7, 2004 - 09:27 am:

I wonder how the skeeters were last night for those gals. I love taking that walk in the morning before getting on the Isle Royal Queen so here goes a ten spot too.

What events are going to take place in the next two weeks? Anything exciting up there in the UP? How do we get to the Jam Pot? I understand it is a must do kinda thing. Have a great weekend to all and I hope these young ladies make their goal! To be young again would be a good thing.

sg -- You, and everyone else, is invited to the Houghton County Historical Society's Heritage Center (the former Congregational Church in Lake Linden) for an interactive "Name that Tune" series. Every Thursday in Aug. at 7pm The 12th we will highlight 1890-1929 songs, the 19th will highlight 1930-1959 songs, and the 26th will highlight 1960-to date songs. Guess the most tunes played and get a prize! One-half hour of guessing and one-half hour of a sing-along. Lots of fun, informal, a modest cost to support the museum, and refreshments to boot! The musicians are having a ball selecting the tunes. You'll have fun guessing and singing! That's what's happening up here--among MANY OTHER THINGS!

SG: There is a link to the Jampot on the pastycam homepage. Be aware they are only open Monday through Saturday, until 5:00. Also enjoy Jacob's Falls next to it. I'll be there next week, too.

Congratulations to Jenn for organizing her "sit-in" to raise funds for Hunter's Point! She did this all on her own, with no help from her folks. I feel it is an honor to personally know this wonderful, determined, unselfish young woman; especially in this day and age of the young people in our society suggested as being "spoiled, selfish, etc." Jenn is taking this project very seriously, and I hope everyone will support the efforts of this young, energetic, giving young lady! She'll last the entire five days; she's got SISU!

We walked Hunters Point just this past Thursday morning, while enjoying a tour of the Copper Harbor Lighthouse & visiting other points of interest that we have read about here on the Pasty.Com site.

Hunters Point is a wonderful walk, filled with Blueberries & Thimbleberrys & Eagle flying overhead & A Deer & Fawn enjoying a drink, and great views of the Harbor & "The Lake".
It is definitely worth saving!

We've been coming to the Western UP for over 10 years, but never spent time in the Keweenaw, til now, after 4 or 5 months of looking at this site, we finally made it there... well worth the extra driving! A longer, return trip is planned.
(when is best time to see fall colors in the Keweenaw?)

Thanks Charlie, for this site, which does an excellent job of teaching us about the Keweenaw.
Everywhere that I mentioned Pasty.com, I got a big smile from the persons behind the counter.

Good afternoon - the countdown has begin since we will be leaving early Monday morning. Any other updates on road construction? gas prices? will be in Eagle Harbor by noon. Plan to stay at the Lake Breeze - our usual spot. Where are all of the others staying this week? Look forward to being there real soon.

just visited hunters point website photo gallery. what a beautiful place. i agree this should be preserved for access and use by all. hope the save hunters point project is a success. maybe even the developers will contribute some of their profits to help preserve the area for the enjoyment for all. which would include(sales feature) even the individual new owner of each development sale site. have a great week end.

After reading some recent posts regarding books that focous on the UP, I just checked out "Lady Unfraid" from the Shiawasseee Library in Durand.
Interesting side bar.. It hadn't been checked out since 1982! With that said I am still looking forward to diving into it this evening.

There is a bakery in Munising that makes great Kringle--I think it is the only bakery in town.

A few years back I read a book about a prison on an island in Lake Superior. It was fiction and the prison was called "Scales". Does anyone know the author or title? It was really good if you get a chance to read it.

If anyone sees this @ pasty central: today's picture is on the home page but does not come up to be accessed.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Sunday, August 8, 2004 - 10:16 am:

Maija, if you do not see what you would expect on today's Pasty Cam/Home page, just click on the "Refresh" icon in your browser. If you still don't see it, email webmaster@pasty.com

You just happened to hit the moment when the Home page had been updated, but the Pasty Cam page had not finished copying.
