Charlie at Pasty Central on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 07:10 am:

In spite of the rain, a fun time was had by all at Pasty Fest 2004 yesterday afternoon. Tim Lyons, Bonnie Hafeman and family enjoy lunch under the tent (top photo), while some Pasty Camwatchers in the middle photo meet up to huddle under the umbrellas. The friendly crowd of locals and out of town visitors didn't seem to mind waiting for a meal from Pasty Central, Louie's II (Connie's Kitchen), or Pat's IGA. Nobody went away hungry.

We'll have more official news of the event posted on the Main Street Calumet website later today, including the winner of the "Copper Pasty Award" in the taste test competition.

The musical troupe "Just In Time" provided the entertainment while the rest of us just danced in the rain. Thanks to all who braved the elements to join us!

Looks like a great way to celebrate Independence Day - even with a few raindrops thrown in! Everyone be safe out there on the roads today!

I have to admit to being jealous. There was rain in the DC area yesterday, too. But the temperatures were in the upper 80's-low 90's, forcing most of us indoors where there was air conditioning.

On the plus side, the countdown has begun. On our way to Lac La Belle at the end of the month!

Everyone looks like they had a good time. God Bless! Looking for more pictures. Mornin' from West Texas.

It's amazing what you can find at Pasty Central
Our real estate pages have really good deals on cabin rentals
and houses for sale in the Copper Country. We have one seller
that is listing an authentic log cabin at Twin Lakes for sale at a
very reasonable price. The buyer must move it off the present
location. They are ready to build and need to move it out now.

The musical group, Just In Time, looks like they are having a good time. Being a musical myself, I am curious about the type of music they played for the occasion. Once again, very interesting photos.

Mike (ex yooper),

I'm not a yooper (well I'm a yooper trapped in a troll's body but sadly, not a real yooper) but I firmly believe that once a yooper, always a yooper (and never an ex yooper). I dont care where you live. It is a noble distinction as there are not many places that are as unique as da UP. I sure wish I could say that I was a yooper. So congrats to you and all those who yoopers who a privleged to have the noble distinction of Yooperhood!

By Yooper, MI on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 11:55 am:

Yoopers and non-yoopers, check out www.yooperalumni.com --this is a real neat web site.

From this distance (California), the pasties look good, the smiling faces look good and the rain even looks good! That's what umbrellas are for!

By missing all florida on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 12:59 pm:

I took US41 to the everglades yesterday. Are you all missing mosquito's. The picture looks great at least no snow this year. Save pasties for the rest of us heh.

Just came back from the Wakefield celebrations. What a treat to see Marty's Goldenaires; led by our State Representative Richard Brown.

Hey, Dude ,nice threads! (Guess which one?)

Where's the Eino and Toivo Sauce?

I love how Yoopers don't let a little rain get in the way of a good time! Thanks for the pics Charlie.

By Homesick in AZ on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 05:24 pm:

Looks like a wonderful time was had by all. Would have loved to hear that band. Great photos! Thanks for sharing the pics with those of us who were not able to go home to be there in person but only in spirit. That rain looks pretty good too. Wish we would get some here in Arizona to put out the wildfires burning. It has been months since any rain has fallen here in the desert. It's "only" 105 degrees and 8 percent humidity today in Phoenix!

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 05:39 pm:

Sorry about the rain folks. Is the summer music festival happening now. I remember taking the boat to Houghton and listening to the concerts at the waterfront. Here in San Jose, it is a beautiful day. Out on the golf course there is a gentleman dressed like Rodney Dangerfield and he was yelling Fffooouuurrr!!! Wonder if it was Dave of Laurium? :)

By Betty,Sun City, AZ on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 06:39 pm:

Ditto to everything you said Homesick in AZ. We are here too in AZ and would love to have been in the CC. even with the rain.

By Bill, Ca. on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 09:56 pm:

Where is the picture of Toivo parachuting in ????
Toivo would never let a little rain stop him from making that grand entrance!!!!!! Or would he???

By Cynthia in NM on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 10:13 pm:

Is that Bob Nordeen with the trombone?!?! I had him as a band director at good ol' Houghton High back in the '80s !! :)
