Happy Independence Day
I know it's not actually the 4th yet, but many communities here in the U.P. are celebrating with parades, fireworks, races and contests today, since the 4th actually falls on Sunday. With that in mind I want to extend our holiday wishes from everyone here at Pasty Central, to all of you out there in Pasty Land. Celebrate safely and take a moment to remember our men and women in the military, who are working presently, to keep our Country free. Kevin Henriksen caught this flag flapping over Lake Superior, on his way to Isle Royale - - don't forget to fly yours proudly!

The countdown dwindles down to the very end - - remember to set your alarm, so you don't miss a moment of the Pasty Fest 2004 fun tomorrow in Agassiz Park at Calumet!

I envy all you folks up there for The Fest! Next year for sure. My prayers for all our people serving in the military. Just sent a 23rd birthday greeting for grandson #2 in Fort Carson Co. My heart's in my throat every time I think of his future possibilities, although he's raring to go! All of you be safe this weekend too.

That is a beautiful picture! Sure wish I was in $ Bay for My sister Lorraine's and Don's 50th Anniversary today and also for the parade.I sure was surprised at how long it is now. It would have been so much fun to go to the Pasty Fest tomorrow and meet you all. I am hoping to get to see some pictures from it.

Great photo of the sun shining on Old Glory. I'm trying to
imagine myself on waterskis behind this boat, 'cause it
looks like a good wake!

Hey all you Yoopers and Yooper wanabes, Happy Fort July!

By Liz, Idaho on Saturday, July 3, 2004 - 01:19 pm:

Over 2000 Idaho National Guard have left or are leaving today for TX. Destination Iraq. Our Pocatello group leaves at 3:15 pm today from private side of airport. Our color guard (2 of my students...more than 150 from the university) won't be here for the parade tomorrow. I'm sure our Vets will step in. Its an emotional day in Poky. Idaho Falls group left at 6:15 this morning...so I should say its an emotional day in East Idaho....Tomorrow will be positive and a celebration why we have the 4th in our area.

By Evelyn, Murphys, CA. on Saturday, July 3, 2004 - 01:25 pm:

IT IS BECAUSE OF AMERICANS LIKE YOU THAT WE CAN CELEBRATE THIS DAY AND STAND PROUD. LET FREEDOM RING AND MAY GOD WATCH OVER ALL OF YOU. YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS DAILY AND YOUR FAMILIES ALSO.

To Liz, in Idaho -

My cousin is with them - I chatted with him a little on-line last night, and he was already in Texas. Hopefully there is someone out there watching over all the servicemen & women.

By Jen on Saturday, July 3, 2004 - 08:27 pm:

Im coming to Copper Harbor in a few weeks! Can't wait! I love it up there!

By Donna on Saturday, July 3, 2004 - 09:08 pm:

I was in Lake Linden park for the fireworks last evening. The full moon coming up over the horizon, during the fireworks was an amazing site!! As we all know, some of life's greatest blessings are the words of children. I was holding my 4 year old grand-niece, and as she watched the fireworks ("AMAZING"), with the full moon rising, she points at the moon and tells me "I wish I could get THAT for my Mom".

Does it get any better?

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY all! Please be safe. Thank you Vets for giving us such a day. God Bless our troops.

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Sunday, July 4, 2004 - 03:34 am:

I noticed today that the price of gas has come down again. (2.13, 2.23, 2.33) Maybe there is hope after all. The roads were so crowded with cars, and everyone in a hurry to get somewhere. So, with all you happy, holiday, tourists on your way to the PastyFest, please be careful while driving. I wish I could be there.

By Candy, CA on Sunday, July 4, 2004 - 06:07 am:

Hey, Bthecute1, come on up to Lincoln (S. Placer County)-- we're having a gas war. It's $1.99 a gal here at 2 stations! I'd love to be at PastyFest, too, but I'll bet we could put on our own west coast version!

By Kim near Lansing on Sunday, July 4, 2004 - 06:57 am:

Morning everyone! Happy 4th of July! Beat ya Dad!

By Paul , Webberville Troll on Sunday, July 4, 2004 - 07:07 am:

Yes, you did! See you at breakfast. Good morning everyone.

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Sunday, July 4, 2004 - 07:31 am:

To Candy, Ca. Could you by any chance be Dr. Meier's daughter?

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Sunday, July 4, 2004 - 07:38 am:

If you are the Candy I think you are, my Mom taught your mom how to make pasties, and I learned from all this teaching to. We could go into business and give PastyFest a run for it's money. I bet my pasties are better than theirs.

By Candy, CA on Sunday, July 4, 2004 - 10:28 am:

Hey, Bthecute1, who's your mom? I bet your pasties are better, too! You'd be taking home the prize. Email me and let me know.

By deborah orlando florida on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 12:43 pm:

Happy Fourth everyone. Let freedom ring, never saw our flag look better. Treasure those parades. And to the other half that went to twinlakes hope you all have fun. Drive carefully.
To our service people keep strong.

By Paul Roberts, Mohawk on Monday, July 5, 2004 - 05:45 pm:

If it wasn't for Pasty Central's popularilty there wouldnt have been an article in Newsweek about them. Pasty Central sends pasties to every state in the nation. Have you ever had a pasty sent to another state? Pasty Central was in Newsweek as a result of their success. I'm guessing it had something to do with the taste of the pasties. Has a pasty you made ever made it into Newsweek? Just a thought to chew on.
