By
Charlie and Edie Hopper, Eagle River, MI on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 07:25 am:

Over the last 2,306 days of the Pasty Cam, this little creature has played an important role: awakening your webmaster to publish a daily shot from the U.P. Even when other staffers prepare the picture of the day, it's still my priviledge to click the final button to make it visible. And for most of those days, Casey got me up and sat right here by my chair.

Last night we laid Casey to rest on our hillside in Eagle River above the dunes overlooking Lake Superior. Such a flood of memories - good times exploring the woods and shoreline - playing in the snow - jogging down Five Mile Point Road - a warm, furry companion who seemed to enjoy the sunsets as much as we do. Over the eight years of this website (more than half of her liftime) Casey didn't appear much in the pictures, but was mentioned often in the dialogue, like a familiar fixture. (For example, in Keewenaw Moon). Such an agreeable pup, she even made it to another first day of summer. Casey passed on as a result of an apparent stroke at age 15, which is about a century of dog years.

To all who have said goodbye to a favorite pet, you can appreciate our mixture of thankfulness and sorrow this morning. Our lives in the U.P. have been filled with more blessings than we can count. And among them, we count Casey.

good dog
Your weekday hostess Mary Drew will return tomorrow morning.

Good Morning from Snellville, Georgia. I am SO sorry to hear about Casey. You have commented on her so many times. We just had to put our cat down a couple of weeks ago, after 13 years. It's so tough, but Casey was part of a much bigger family! God Bless you with your loss and we will miss Casey, as well.

By Walt, Ohio on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 07:44 am:

A touching story, Charlie. Brings back a flood of memories to me of my dog, Sniffer, who sniffed her way into our lives (she was a cast off pup who wandered to our camp on Lake Eva -near Toivola when I was quite young) She was a faithful dog to the end!

By Mary Lou on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 07:46 am:

Our little "Horton" was put to sleep in 1981 he was a sassy little peek-a-poo and we loved him dearly. He is missed so much, still.....a beloved friend......sympathy to the Hopper family on your loss. Beloved pets really are..... like family members.

By Carole on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 07:48 am:

I can only repeat what Alex said; OH NO!!! Sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Casey. Pets are wonderful creatures and companions. We just returned from one month in the UP and I cannot imagine going there without my dog. She loved the walk in the woods, along the beach and just going for rides. She will be nine soon and has Cushings disease and wonder if this was her last trip with us. I hope not.

So glad Casey blessed your lives for so many years - which makes it all the harder to say goodbye, doesn't it? May your hearts be comforted as you think of all the good times you spent with her.

I am so sorry to hear about Casey. We have a 15 year old Lab/collie mix who has been a huge part of our life. My wife and I dread losing him but he too is 100+ dog years old.

My thoughts are with you.

My condolences on the loss of your beloved pet. I know what it is like, because I have been through it more than once with dogs and kitties! I still miss every one of them sorely!

After some time, you will be able to replace your sadness with fond memories that Casey left while she was gracing your lives. Maybe now she is seeing you and she appreciates your sorrow for your loss of her.

Sorry to hear about your beloved. We lost two old family friends last year and still have quite a time getting along without them.

We had quite a storm last night and lost the windshield of the truck. Many homes lost windows as did the hospital and newest Walmart Supercenter. It is TX and the panhandle.

Charlie and Edie: So sorry to hear of your death in your family! We too have said many-a-goodbys to beloved pets! Casey and George Hite's Abby are romping together I'm sure! Stay well!

Charlie, for what small comfort it may bring -- all of us pastyheads are thinking of you today with fondness and sorrow for your loss.

By Cindy, St. Clair Shores, MI on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 08:38 am:

I'm sorry for the length of this story, but it helped me when I lost Rembrandt, the best brittany spaniel I ever had. I still miss him. I'm so sorry for your loss, Charlie.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content except for one small thing. They each miss someone very special - someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face. Your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together....

I can feel the pain of your loss. I have said good-bye to many furry friends. It is like losing a family memeber. Remember the good times and all the unconditional love and loyalty she gave to you.

It's sad news hearing about Casey this morning. You couldn't have provided a better life for Casey. All the love and adventure and time you spent together...well...all of you are lucky. It's a great life, and you take none of it for granted. That's what love is, and that's what makes it so special and eternal.

Sorry to hear about Casey Charlie. Our thoughts are with you.

By Kate, CA on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 09:25 am:

Casey, like other yoopers, must have had one heck of a big heart and hardy spirit to endure living in da U.P. I remember a boxer we had who used to follow us down to da lake for a swim. We'd swim out to the rocks thinking she'd wait for us on shore, but no, she had to come out to the rocks, too. We noticed, over time, how the chill of Lake Superior affected her joints. Poor thing had arthritis. I used to marvel at her loyalty in following us everywhere, wanting to be a part of all we did. We finally had to put her to sleep to alleviate her pain and suffering. Seems like Casey provided the same kind of loyal companionship for you. I am sorry for the loss of your beloved friend. I hope you find comfort in knowing you had a very special pet, who loved you completely and unconditionally.

I'm sorry to hear about your Casey...I had a Casey dog too and loved her dearly. Still miss her and haven't replaced her after a year. Thank you for the work you do on this site, we appreciate it every day.

My sympathy and love for you and those who shared Casey's life. That's the problem when you become attached to a pet, you know someday they'll have to leave us. Just enjoy the love and friendship they give. We've all been there and share your pain. Remember the good times.

By Kathi, Ferndale on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 10:29 am:

Charlie and Edie, please accept my sympathy on the loss of your beloved Casey. Like many others who have responded, I've also been there. I try to be stoic - "it's a fact of life", "it's the humane decision a responsible pet owner must make" - but it's still never easy, emotionally. Best to you.

By Lyndelle Chiomenti, Frederick, Maryland on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 10:37 am:

Dear Charlie and Edie, I like to imgaine that your Casey is romping gayly at the Rainbow Bridge with our Pookie, Michael, Silver, Mocha, and all the other wonderful pets mentioned here today.

Mocha came with us when we purchased our camp in Calumet approximately 5 years ago. We came in September. She died that January.

When I get home from work tonight, I'll surely be thinking of you as I sit with our current fuzzies, Elke and Major. Major learned to swim in Lake Superior. And Elke's favorite activity is walking the length of Calumet Waterworks Park along the top, then returning via the beach.

I know how empty your house feels right now.

Sincerely,
Lyndelle Chiomenti

Being a dog owner for years and having the experience of saying goodby to a good friend who just happens to be a pet, I can relate.

"Things we can learn from a dog"
Author unknown

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they have invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Be Loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close and nuzzle them gently.
Thrive on attention.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you are happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the long term guilt thing and pout, just look sorry, then run back and make friends.
Bond with your pack.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

I bet Casey demonstrated most if not all of those teaching traits.

It's hard to read a message like this when you have been through it and know you will again before too long. Even the Beagles in our family have been Yoopers (imported to the flat lands like me). Showing their breeding the first lived happily until 14. The "younger" sister is now 15, still lively but now doesn't attack the squirrels (never caught one) but just sits and stares them down. Someday we will have to take her back to the UP to lay next to her "sister" and "cousin" canines in a family plot. Until then we'll cherish her company and pray for all those that have lost their faithful companions.

By RnR on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 10:52 am:

Charlie, our whole world weeps with you and yours. Our "Goofy Puppio" crossed-over not long ago too. I've heard it said: "As above, so below". That means there must be Ka-Billions of Keweenaw Pasties in Heaven, where they are right now. And I'm bettin' all of our recently crossed-over loved ones are together there munching right now.

Thank you, Casey, for helping Charlie and Company, to create such a wonderful Shoulder for us all to share a cry on. That in itself brings us unexpressable joy to help us dry our tears.

By Eric, IL on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 11:01 am:

Casey's body is at rest and her spirit is free. May her little soul soar in the heavens until she meets you again.

We Have A Secret

We have a secret, you and I
that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie
each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths
and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind
so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I
can see the bending grass.

Charlie.. I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your dog Casey. When we lost our dog Bailey in Oct-2001,you could hear a pin drop in our home. Our house became a lonely place to be. Unconditional love is what you get from your pet. No matter what kind of miserable workday I may have had, Bailey was always waiting at the door so happy to see me.

We now have a puppy named Casey!!! I will think of your Casey when I take ours out tonight for a walk.

I fear for the day when I may have to go through this again!! It absolutely rips you apart!!

By jean, west texas on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 11:54 am:

Charlie,
West Texas grieves for your loss...animals are truly like family. You were blessed for 15 years and will carry those memories for a long time-we know, we put our first golden down about 4 years ago and it was hard to do and now we are the "parents" of two more who we cherish most days:)

By Liz Benson, Idaho on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 11:57 am:

Loving loyal four paws remain in our hearts forever. Peace comes with that knowledge.

By Larry L, Fredonia WI on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 12:10 pm:

So sorry to hear about your loss.

I remember my Charlie (we got him when I was 4 and had him put down when I was 15) and Candi (we got her a couple of weeks after Charlie passed - My folks had her put down a couple of years ago).

They were great dogs in their own way.

My advice to anyone who looses a pet: Give it a week or so (no more than two weeks) and then go down to the Humane Society and make a new friend.

It's hard to do at first, but as Charlie Brown always said: "Life is a series of Dogs."

By Karl-Cadillac, Mi on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 12:11 pm:

I feel your loss. I am an animal lover myself. I have always had a dog or cat, mostly dogs...I now have 3, Jake, he's part beagle and 12years old, Gonzo, he's part Black Lab and Chow, he's 9 years old and now as of Christmas I have Princess, she was a "drop off" in a blizzard and 0 degree's outside. I wish I could tell you how much I love them, but you know in your heart. I know that someday Jake will be gone, he is showing his age alot lately. But I enjoy them all, and when one goes, I will find a replacement, I have to have a Best Friend by my side all the time, life is too short not to have a Friend to share it with!

By Linda in Genesee County on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 12:15 pm:

My heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your beautiful Casey. Dogs are truly God's greatest gift to man. Through your grief, keep sight of the wonderful, loving life you provided for your dog. I am sure she had a better life than lot's of children.

I have had to say goodbye to three dogs that I treated like the babies I never had. Time will heal this awful ache and loss.

My advice to you is to get another dog as a tribute to all of the good times you had with your Casey. I'll bet she would feel honored that you thought so much of her you had to get another dog for company.

By Dan in Ca. on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 12:39 pm:

I didn't think i'd ever have a pet again, but we wound up adopting a greyhound and he's been with us for about six years now.If the Rainbow Bridge story has any merit,i'm looking forward to having a ball when we meet again! Good luck and bless Casey

I am so sorry that you must go through this but if you look Kally in the eyes and tell her it is ok to go and know she is in a much better place it won't be quite so hard to do. I wish the pain a speedy flight for everyone who has lost a pet, however, I know time is what heals. This site never ceases to amaze me with the warmth and generosity that pours through. Thank you one and all who make this a wonderful place to visit.

By Lyn Rayrat on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 05:10 pm:

Charlie & Family,
My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your beloved Casey.

I got to the gate of heaven yesterday after we said goodbye.
I began to miss you terribly, because I heard you cry.
Suddenly there was an angel and she asked me to enter heaven's gate.
I asked her if I could stay outside for someone who'd be late.
I wouldn't make much noise you see,
I wouldn't bark or howl,
I'll only wait here patiently
and play with my tennis ball.
The angel said I could stay right here and wait for you to come
Because heaven just wouldn't be heaven if I went in alone.
So I'll wait here, You take your time, but keep me in your heart.
Because heaven just wouldn't be heaven without you to warm my heart.

Hi mom and dad,I am so sorry about casey. I wish I could have been there to say goodbye. She has been the best dog a kid could want. I remember the day we broght her home...I couldn't have been happier. She was my buddy and I will miss her so much. It will be horrid the next time I come home and there will be no big fur ball to greet me :(
I miss you guys, Hope you can come visit soon.

Goodbye lovely Casey!

By Patt on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 06:18 pm:

What else can be said that all ready hasn't?
Please know how sorry & sad we all are for you today and tomorrow and the next day too.

When my 14 yr old pooch died last August I couldn't even think about another pup. I swore there'd be no other. After the first few weeks I would sneak glimpses of other dogs on Pet Finder on the net but it would make me physically sick so I stopped. 6 weeks later with much trepidation I walked into the local Humane Society and there she was.. Miss Pepper all sweet and loving as could be, but I still wasn't ready. Told myself I'd be betraying the memory of my Scruffy if I got another dog so soon. So I left there empty handed. For 10 days I couldn't stop thinking about Miss Pepper. Eventually I called to see if she was still there and gratefully she was. I left work early that day to go get her. Now 8 months later I can't imagine life without her. And though I miss Scruffy and cry when I see dogs that remind me of her, Miss Pepper is such a blessing that it makes it easier. So if & when the time is right please do give serious thought to getting another dog. Until then know we are all here for you and understand your pain.

Oh yes almost forgot.. Pepper will be joining me in line on July 4th waiting for that free pasty. This will be her first trip to the UP.

I, like all the other wonderful people here, feel your loss and say that I am sorry. It is never, ever easy losing one that has been so loved and cherished. Just last year, my childhood dog Toivo had to be put down after living for almost 19 years, almost as old as me. I miss that pup every day, but I know she's in a better place. (And Toivo is a girl...when we first named her, we thought she was a boy...)
My heart goes out to all who have lost loved ones, may they be human or animal.

I can't read this page today after several attempts. I'm blinded within seconds by tears. We've all been there. And it is sad. But bear in mind that you did something that is far too challenging for a lot of dog owners... you kept this dog from being hit by a car and that is a very noble thing. Also, remember that somewhere in a shelter, your next best friend is waiting. All he needs is you to get him off of death row, just give him a home and he's yours for the duration. Give them a call. All of you can be healed and can help a dog that needs a home! There are many very healthy dogs that need you now. Take care!

By Carole on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 07:36 pm:

Connie, you said it best. I too am having a hard time reading all of the wonderful sentiments posted here today. I have used a half a box of kleenex so far. I also agree that there is a lot of wonderful future furry companions waiting for us in some shelter.

It is so hard to loose a friend, such as your beloved Casey, who has been such an important part of your every day life for so long. Several years ago, we had to put down our friend, Polar, due to spinal cancer. He was a special part of our lives for 17 happy years. He too is buried close to home. Your lose is deep felt.

Charlie and Edie,

We are so sorry to hear about Casey. Last year we lost our 15 year old Lab, Daisy. It was so hard to face the next day without her. I know how you both must feel tonight. I know that we will all meet our pets again at the Rainbow Bridge. I look forward to that as I am sure you do too.

Our condolences.

How can losing a pet make us hurt so much! I lost Pugsy on June 1st after having the 1/2 pug mix for 8 years. He became diabetic 18 months ago and blind last July but that didn't affect him hardly at all. A large tumor finally took it's toll. Duke, my German shepherd even took it hard for 2 weeks but is finally coming around. I visit the local animal shelter daily and I know it's just a matter of time before I come home with another partner for both of us. My sincerest sympathies!!

By CC Yooper on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 09:06 pm:

Dear Charlie,

May I add my heartfelt sympathy to the beautiful expressions already sent to you by so many kind souls. My thoughts and prayers are with all of your family in your loss.

There is a simply wonderful book entitled "Dog Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant which a dear friend and co-worker gave to us when we lost our beloved family dog last year. It is absolutely precious and very healing in its simplicity and few words. It will bring tender tears and tender smiles. It helped our family a great deal, and we treasure it. The author has also written "Cat Heaven" to bring sweet comfort to anyone who has lost a dear cat or kitten. It can be found in the children's section of bookstores, and also can be found on Amazon or any of the book company websites. It is under $15 and well worth it. My friend works with the Humane Society, and she buys several copies at once so she always has one handy to share with a grieving family. Just thought you might want to know about it.

Charlie,
Sorry to hear about your loss.
I lost Bear two years ago, not a day goes by that I don't think about that big loveable lug. The kids and I will tell stories about him, and it's great to see how everyone lites up when speaking of him. We have another dog now, Maggie, But there will never be another Bear. Amazing how an animal can have such an impact on our lives.

I run an animal shelter dating from the mid 1930's in inner city Detroit and can tell you without hesitation that the love of pets is one of the few equalizers between all people. I found my "Lodge" on the Lodge freeway and she was never more than three feet from me for the 14 years I had her. The relationship between people and animals is very deep, very strange, and very rewarding. We learn every day.........hopefully
Angelflight to the UP on the 30th. I can't wait.

Pets are more than just animals, they are as big a part of life as human family members, my heart goes out to you both, Casey lived a long life, but I know the pain of losing a furry companion, and the grief is heavy hearted, memories of dear Casey will be with you forever, I am sure she is in doggy heaven with wings of gold, as all pets are so wonderful in the way they give unconditional love---they all have earned thier wings!
GodBless!

The Hooper family
Just another quick note of giving condolences regarding the death of your Casey. I know how hard it is. Just a year ago I had to put my cat Max to sleep due to an unoperable tumor to his ear. My husband and I cried all day. The next day we knew what we had to do -- go back to the animal shelter and give Max another sibling. Since it is a no kill shelter -- we were able to adopt a 2 year old cat that had been there for a year. We named him Franz due to his black goutee (he is a black and white tuxedo cat similar to Max) and he has become the best companion. Take the time to heal and consider another sibling for Casey. After all - the unconditional love that an animal will give you is worth it all.

Our sympathy to you, Charlie and Edie, on the loss of Casey. Mimi lost her little poodle 'bout 5 years ago and still has his bed and toys. We stopped and talked to Edie one day last year and Casey was with her. We recognized her right away tonight. You're in our thoughts and our prayers. Rest easy, Casey. Good dog.

By Charlie H., Eagle River, MI on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 - 12:11 am:

Edie and I want to thank everyone for their kindness and good wishes today. A wonderful web community has grown here over the years, and we can always count on meaningful conversation every day.

For the record let me mention that we received Casey at an "adopt-a-pet" exhibit at the Copper Country Mall almost 15 years ago. And regarding another pet at our house, it just so happens that we will be dog-sitting "Bear" for Jonathan and Katriina during their upcoming trip to Finland in July.

We are thinking of starting a Guest Gallery page where people can post pictures of their pets. I remembered a couple of shots back in the Pasty Cam archives where Casey snuck into view. This was the demolition of the old house at the south end of Eagle River bridge:

Good bye Casey.I'am sure your missing them just as much as they miss you.For what seemed like a 100 years of your life you gave your love,it's ok to rest now.
On monday the 14 th.we saw a tiny kitten on our deck, she was afraid. We have two(house) cats for many years now,who came with us from MI.In the nine months we been in this house we have cared for three dogs.Nice expensive dogs. Although they were not Great Danes,my neighbor who is into that breed of dogs rescue helped these ones find a home.Saw a young Lab get run over by the Garbage truck.A PG cat came by often for a meal, then came back to give birth to her three here in our house. We did find out who they belonged to.This little kitten has grown alot since that monday. Our 20 lb.nuterd male cat Saber, who speaks and understands English, and our 5 lb.spayed female Sissy are learning to love this cute little black-white-tan invader of their people.Dogs, cats, ferrets mourn the loss of each other, and their people.

Darn! I tried to copy to this post a Mother Goose and Grimm cartoon from last week, but it wont work. (Copyright infringement?) Anyway, it was dogs and their humans in heaven, and the humans were throwing their halos for their friends to chase. It was a poignant cartoon. My first-ever dog, Grady the black lab, is getting up there and I grieve to see her grow older and more arthritic. When she dies I plan to spread her ashes on the waters at Sturgeon Bay where we spent so many days in the summer sun.

By Ms. V. - Saint Paul, MN on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 - 12:49 pm:

I saw this yesterday and couldn't post because it is still really hard. Saturday, June 19, 2004 a little after 11 AM CDT my beloved Puppy Girl had to end her fight against lymphoma. Next month she would have been 4. I got her December 1, 2001 and do not regret one moment with her. Her name was Mya and she was a beautiful, darling Rottweiler. Not a mean bone in her body, lover of children and flirter with men. She brought much happiness to my house - loved my cats and birds and was so very faithful to me. She was my protector here in the big city. She was the one I would cuddle with when I was happy or sad, and she was glad to be the recipient. She loved her yard, had her special spots to watch the world go by, and loved to play with her toys - especially when someone would play with them with her. This is the second time in my life I had to make the decision to end the suffering of a beloved family member, the first being November 7, 1997 at 2:40 PM CST. His name was Roll, and he was a wonderful cat - a black/brown/white tabby, who had diabetes under control but ultimately cancer is what took him. He was 15 years old and stood by me when my father died. Watched over me when I was sick. Everyone feels differently when they lose one they love, but I know that none of us ever forget. I remember and love them all forever and when I see them again I will just want to hug them. I know my babies were loved. I know everyone who posted here about their lost pals loved them, too.

By Russ E., St. Clair county MI on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 - 01:15 pm:

As my friend Dave H.in TN. above already knows, we lost one of our cats last week. He as well as us have been thru this too many times. It's always tough. The cat was bad enough but I anquish for our 4 mixed Labs, all related, all girls!, 2 yellow, 2 black. 2 are now 10 years old.
Like Connie in CO, it took me quite some time to read this all! Like Alex and others said, it is amazing and touching the response to this. Several of our friends, neighbors and even relatives don't understand how or why we are so attached to our pets, especially the Labs which we do spoil and take with us most everywhere. We once had goats, and they too are much like dogs! Yes, I anquish that we can't afford the huge Vet. bills if something serious happens. I am so glad to see that so many here feel as we do toward their pets!
Often when I look into their adoring, smiling eyes and when ever I hear the old Temptations song I think--"I got sunshine on a cloudy day, When it's cold outside, it's like the month of May, What would make me feel this way?"---"My Girls"!!
Now that we are in our 60s we are aware that it is now possible that our dogs could outlive us! I can't bear to think if that happened that we and they would be seperated! In the meantime we all continue to go birding, camping and fishing together!
It's too bad we all can't care and bond to one another as we do our pets!
I think it's a wonderful idea to have a "Pet" Guest Gallery!
Bless all the "Caseys" (or whatever their name may be) ---everywhere!

I'm sure am sorry to hear about the loss of Casey. My daughter Megan and I lost a wonderful friend in 1995 named Crystal who was a white Samoyd. She had become very ill and a couple of days later, she died in my arms while I was petting her. Before she died, she looked at me (tears running down my cheeks) as if to tell me that she loved me one last time.
A few months later, our Cocker Spanierl, "Lady" became a part of our family. I have a couple of pictures of our "Best Friend who owns us" in our guest photo page.

I've had the good fortune of being adopted by four-legged friends and have been through that most difficult part of the deal which you've recently experienced.

Every time I think of the furballs that have gone on before me and miss them, I remember a quote from an unknown author which helps in some strange way: "I one day hope to be half the man my dog thinks I am."

I remember when you guys brought her home too. I have many a memory of Casey and Patches, those two rascals. Casey made it a ways past good old Patches, but had a good life that's for sure, I think it was all those scraps from the Dining Hall that Patches ate! Casey was one of those fixtures that you always kind of thought would be around. I'll miss ya too Casey.

See you all in a week or so!

I knew Casey well. When my travels brought me through the U.P., a stop to visit was well in order...and Casey was there to meet and greet every time. Your loss is felt by all of us... but God is bigger than our sorrows and offers us comfort and peace.

Goodbye Casey...and thank you for the great memories!

By Alan Abel, Wisconsin on Thursday, June 24, 2004 - 09:32 am:

Casey and I enjoyed a number of great adventures while house sitting for her. I think she had a little bit of goat in her after seeing some of the things she would chew up. There was always something new to sniff on the daily walk to get the mail. And she always made time for me to pet her.

Of all God's blessings, it's true that some of His best are little furry ones.

She will be dearly missed...
Goodbye Casey.

It is hard when a pet passes on- Pepper was our baby after she was found alone and mistreated in the desert of Las Vegas. We nourished her back to health and allowed her to be the best little girl. However; age finally took her from us and now she awaits for us to reunite. She still brings back fond memories and she constantly comes up in conversations when we speak about our new girl, Bailee. She fills some of the void but after 14 years being the run of the house, it is hard... Best Wishes to you. Raised in Marquette & Negaunee and now we are happy in the South, but view Pasty.com regularly.

Their time with us is so brief, but the time without them is so empty. I've threatened three times never to be owned by another one, but those big brown eyes and that tail wagging like a metranone saying "take me home" brought the knowledge that some day I'll be making that empty threat again. From one dog person to another, peace.
