There have been a number of photos of the Hungarian Falls in Tamarack City, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a side shot of it like this one from Jeff Kalember. If you look closely at the people in the shot, it looks like each one is either taking or has just finished taking a picture of the steep falls, just out of the frame. Anyone who has visited those falls in person can vouch for the fact that it is a very picturesque cascade indeed. With all the bright new greenery abounding and the rocks warmed by the sun, it looks like a great place to "set a spell" and conjure up some dreams!
Troll in Eagle Harbor......What is the name of the motel near the beach in E. H.??..I called the Lake Breeze but they are filled for July 24th......I'll be staying in Lake Linden but want to take both "Celebration of the Lights Cruises" which leave the harbor at 8am. I am afraid of fog early in the morning so decided to stay nearby.

I remember going to the falls when I was a little girl.It was beautiful then as it is now. Up above the falls lived a hermit. We used to like to go to his property line to peek at him. His dogs would start barking and the we'd run like the dickens. He'd come to town to get his groceries and carry them in a sack. He never bothered anyone but there was a mystic about him to us little kids. I can't remember his name off hand, does anyone else remember him?

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 - 04:58 pm:
To our Pasty Central regulars, you'll be happy to know this afternoon, at Governor Granholm's request, we shipped a half-dozen fresh frozen pasties to The Honorable Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California. Included in the package was a bottle of Toivo & Eino's Really Secret Pasty Sauce, some Fudgy Pasties, a Pasty Pillow, a double extra large "I Love Pasties" T-shirt, a "Calumet Copper Country Metropolis " book, and a 2004 Pasty Cam Calendar. Also we inserted a formal invitation from Main Street Calumet asking the Governor if he'd be willing to serve as a Judge at "Pasty Fest 2004" in Calumet on July 4th.
Your picture of the "Hungarian Falls" posted on June 16 is up stream approx. 100 yards or so from the true Hungarian Falls. Although it could be considered part of the Hungarian Falls system it was typically known as the "Bluff" when I was growing up in Tamarack Mills and swimming there as a teen in the 50's. I still visit there every summer and enjoy it as much as ever.

Hey Charlie!! Was wondering if we can cheat and get in line twice for those pasties at Pasty Fest?(snicker, snicker)
I just got the word from work that we will be closed the Monday after the 4th so this troll wanna-be is heading up that weekend to visit the son who is taking some field classes at Tech this summer. Get to kill 2 birds with one stone that way. Mom gets to see the son she misses AND get the wonderful pasties you guys make.

Hei, Charlie Edwards, it is a looonng time since we swam at the Hungarian Dam and the Bluff. Aren't these falls the ones we called the Mama Falls? Was in May of '56 or '57, Don Michelson (from Elo.) and I were crossing that big rock that angles down to the water. (There was ice around the edges yet.) He fell in and I've never seen anyone swim SO fast across that pool. :>) 'Course, not to be out done, I had to jump in, too. Man, it was COLD.
