Here in the U.P., whether the ground is covered with the white of snow or green growing grass, you'll find this little Yooper out doing his chores. Earlier this year, on February 14, we featured this same little guy (with rosy red cheeks) working hard scooping the driveway. How lucky can Michael and Patricia Forgrave be...having a child who loves to shovel AND cut the grass. If you look real close, back there by the tree is a red wheelbarrow, so there's more work in this youngster's future!

We're going to have our grandson for a few days this week. Maybe I can get him to do the same thing !! Is two years old too young ?

Sorry, but I am a troll(Marine City). My parents moved to Mass City in 1976 then to Houghton 3 years ago. I moved to Jacksonville in 1982 and love it here. As for the G-8 so far all is quiet hope it stays that way. Hope not too many find out about the Golden Isles they are really beautiful.

I was in Copper Harbor yesterday, doing some signal testing for our Pasty.NET wireless, and the blackflies are swarming. Everywhere you looked, people were doing the Yooper wave.

Hopefully by July 4th they will run their course, in time for the Copper Harbor fireworks. A remider also that earlier in the afternoon on the 4th everyone is invited to Pasty Fest 2004 in Calumet. The first 400 will be treated to a free pasty from Pasty Central. Agassiz park, 11am-4pm, July 4th.

Cut the FLOWERS!!!!!

Another year has passed and we're all a little older.
Last summer felt hotter and winter seems much colder.
I rack my brain for happy thoughts, to put down on my pad,
But lots of things that come to mind that make me kind of sad.

There was a time not long ago when life was quite a blast.
Now I fully understand about "Living in the Past"
We used to go to weddings, football games and lunches.
Now we go to funeral homes, and after-funeral brunches.

We used to have hangovers, from parties that were gay.
Now we suffer body aches and while the night away.
We used to go out dining, and couldn't get our fill.
Now we ask for doggie bags, come home and take a pill.

We used to often travel to places near and far.
Now we get sore bottoms from riding in the car.
We used to go out shopping for new clothing at the Mall
But, now we never bother...all the sizes are too small.

We used to go to nightclubs and drink a little booze.
Now we stay at home at night and watch the evening news.
That, my friend is how life is, and now my tale is told.
So, enjoy each day and live it up...before you're too darned old!

Don't cut the flowers & watch out for the wheelbarrow!! Reminds me of my childen. Whenever I get done cutting my lawn, there's someone right behind me pushing their little mower too.

Wow, I tune in to PastyCam and you're talking about the Golden Isles of GA -- what a beautiful place, esp. in the fall and spring. We have our share of biting things there, tho' -- ever hear of deer flies? Oh, they are voracious!

Hope the G-8 continues to be a non-event as far as violence goes. My boyfriend is there being a peaceful protester!

The G-8 meeting in Georgia comprises of 8 major economic powers getting together at the taxpayers expense so they can talk about and agree on things that are never going to happen. Let the record show that high-speed wireless Internet service in Copper Harbor was activated this afternoon. I started writing this sitting in my car at the Third Street Memorial Park, connected to a booming signal from the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, a couple of miles up US-41. Then we drove to the Lodge for dinner, and afterwards, sitting here overlooking the golf course, I'm logged back on to finish this note.

Congratulations to the Pasty.NET team for overcoming the obstacles to bring the broadband service this far north, not the least of which was the absence of any power source on the top of Brockway Mountain. Special thanks to Mike Musiel for providing the expertise to install a solar power array to fill the need.

On Friday we hope to connect the State of Michigan's northern-most resident's to the new high-speed service, and have a little celebration.

The Yoop has been way ahead of technology since I lived in Hubbell. We had cable back in 1964, moved down to troll land in '65 and all they had to offer was UHF, Lou Gordon and Bill Kennedy. Needless to say, my siblings and I were disappointed thinking the "big city" would have more to offer TV-wise. Congrats to your wireless option...

It all depends on where in the U.P. you were. When I left in '73, we got 3 TV channels: 2 (CBC) from Soo, Canada; 10 (CBS) from Soo, Michigan; and 4 (NBC) from Cheboygan. My dad bought an electric antenna rotor so he could turn the antenna toward Marquette on Sunday mornings to try to pull in "Finland Calling" on Channel 6; the picture was snowy at best. Cable was not available.

i can't wait for the fireworks in lake linden this 4th of july and the parade that runs through calumet!
