Sledding the Cliffs    ...scroll down to share comments

The groomers have a lot more to work with this week, what with all the whiteout we've seen. This shot of the Cliffs was snapped by former pasty-girl Becky Howard, with her hubby Bryan, home for a visit and snowmobile ride. Becky served up orders over Pasty Central's toll-free line for several years while Bryan was graduating from MTU and officiating hockey in the Copper Country. They now live in Utah, where Bryan is working on his master's, but I hear they want to come back to settle in the Keweenaw someday.

This shot reminds me of one by Becky's brother Jonathan Hopper, back in the early days of the Pasty Cam - - a view of the Cliffs as you descend US-41 from the Snow Thermometer:

 Near Phoenix
By the way, I understand the snowmobile in today's photo is one of Jonathan's, and it's for sale. If you're looking for a dependable used sled, and if you're coming towards Eagle River with a trailer and a thousand bucks in your pocket, Jonathan can fill your trailer and relieve you of some raha. Who knows? Maybe this could be the first transaction of the new pastieBay

Awesome photo...

I think half of the draw for me (and perhaps other trolls) is the the pic's, yet the other draw seems to be the "family" atmosphere in the "comments"... Even yesterday's hunting debate seemed more like a couple of 28 year old brothers posturing...

Interesting to note the finiancial impact snowmobileing - AND - hunting brings to the U.P.

Interesting to read the various opinions, and thank God I live in a country free to express them...

Looks too cold! Only 33 degrees here this morning!

By wanda, Calumet MI on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 07:56 am:

Only 33? Poor thing! That would be a heat wave. 6 degrees here. When the sun shines you don't notice how cold it is, and everyone seems so much happier.....but it's been rare lately. Nice photo though, I can see the sun.

Keen, so where do we 'click' to find PastyBay? What will be next? ...the "UP-singles" connection?

By Kathy, Maryland on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 09:27 am:

Why not Still Waters Singles connection? You're never too old, to be young!

By vaalea on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 09:38 am:

May we have a closer view and some more sled details? I do know some interested parties if it hasn't sold by mid-Feb.

By old coot on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 09:47 am:

Shay -- that "PhastyBay" sounds like a good idea. Maybe I could pfind a new shet of teef and then I could order some phasties! Or maybe I could get on "Stillwatersrundeep.com" and find a good lookin' ol' gal to make me some phasties! We could chomp our way into the sunset of our waning years arguing about catsup versus gravy served on the "food of life". Now if I could only remember my grandkids' phone number so she could come over and turn my computer on for me -----
Oh, and great picture, as usual!

Hey JJ MI, Good comments. I concur!

I was just checking out John Dee's trail cam and I see a sign beside the trail. Can't make out what it says though.

By Kevin K. Lodi,CA on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 10:37 am:

Good Morning all from the CA. Central valley,
It has been foggy and cool (highs mid 50's). At work I listen to these natives of the Golden State complain about the weather, and how "cold it is" Then I click on this site and MTU's site and show them the cam pictures. Then they realize that it's not so bad here. Guess it's all realative!

By John, Chicago on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 10:38 am:

There's a running debate on the sign on John Dee's "ask John" section. It's been up for a few days now.

Can't wait to come back up at the end of February, looks like a good snow year.

Sure looks like fun - sledding. Off the subject though, does anybody know what's going on with the Lake Superior Land Co. property that was up for sale along Five-Mile Point, near the Sunset Bay RV Resort?? Haven't heard a thing about it. Thanks in advance if anyone has any feedback. (I am NOT a developer.)

By New Cousin, MI on Saturday, January 24, 2004 - 04:17 pm:

Paiva, Paiva, Toivo from Toivola - is the sun up that early for you to be snowmobiling at that hour of the morning? Or does the sun never set in the UP? (:]) My family hails from "the farm" outside of Copper City - all gone now - the Piirainens - does anyone from the Keewanaw recall any of them? Anyway, would you be the same Toivo from Toivola that knows Loggersend out of Gay, MI?
If you are, then greetings from New Cousin, downstate!

Just in case I didn't do it before: Many thanks for the additional site for being argumentative. Makes two sites to enjoy: One for great pics and comments and one for serious (ok, more or less) discussion. No need to decide wether to be just nice or openhearted, too.
Keep it up! (The whole pasty.cam, that is.)
By the way, another great pic - real winter - sighh!

By Curious on Sunday, January 25, 2004 - 11:00 pm:

SOMEBODY HELP ME!! I can't get out of pasty cam. The gorgeous pictures are incredible. The notes fascinating. I wake up and am supposed to be getting ready to go to work. "Oh, maybe I can just look at one picture." I've been going thru from the beginning, and am actually only up to Nov 2001, but had to zoom ahead to post this message. Thanks so incredibly much to all involved in this effort. SO MANY LOVELY MEMORIES! The Ambassador! The boat at Kearsarge! The snow sculptures! Great Sand Bay! Northern lights! rainbows! ETC ETC! Shoebox memories! (one found someone looking for my cousin) Wonderful.
