"Cotton on the roadside, cotton in the ditch, we all picked the cotton, but we never got rich". (from Alabama's Song of the South)

Roger Kangas found some cotton ready for pickin' in the Keweenaw. He describes it as "cold cotton candy" in his Guest Gallery. It's hard to determine if the pink hue is from a morning sunrise or an evening sunset, but no matter which, it definitely gives this shot character.

Wow, first post today. It pays to be an imsomniac. Beautiful pic. but I'm glad I'm in Albuquerque with no snow on the ground. We have some on the neighboring mountains though. Chilly this A.M. 20 deg. F.

This is definitely a WOW! Doesn't matter whether it's sunrise or sunset - it's simply glorious. Thanks Mary for posting and thanks Roger for sharing!

It is a chilly 21 degrees here in West Texas but no snow. We continue to be dry, dry and dry. Took the kiddies to the Ft.Worth zoo on Friday with temps near 80. Love the picture.

NW Wis.
10:15 AM
+2' F.

Still sunny but trying to cloud up. Snow not very
deep here. Zero to about 5" depending where you
are standing.

The photo is nice. Looks almost like snow flowers.

Great shot. Brings the U.P. alive after 54 years in California. Clouding up for rain with 55deg. for today.

Beautiful photo! The suns rays seem to be from the left side of the photo... and since the sun is in the southern sky and when you face south east is to the left, this must be a sunrise... Cold and crisp here too... -4ºF with a couple inches of snow...

Super shot! Just checked in with the bridge cam, and wow, you guys are sure getting the snow now! Looks like "white-out". Wish I was there!! On Sharon Smith's cam you can't even see the water.
Wish I was there.

Just got an email from the parents that said it's gonna be really "lovely" when the winds pick up.
Time to stay inside, stay warm, and stay safe!
Be Careful up there.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Amber!

This picture is wonderful as wallpaper. It's a small consolation with no snow in sight here. Finally it is beginning to feel like winter, which somehow remains my favority season. Maybe because there is not six months of it here.

My guess is it is a morning shot. Can't imagine that delicate fluff would have lasted all day under a winter sun.

By Flintstone Freddy on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 - 06:34 pm:

You can have 75 in Tampa, sounds boring, LOL

By walter p tampa on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 - 08:36 pm:

This beautiful photo reminds us of our trip to North Carolina in January of 1997. There was a dusting of snow in Raleigh and, as we headed east to check out the coast, noticed that the snow cover was deepening somewhat.

At one point, we also saw clumps of white stuff along the road and then a field of short plants with puffs of white stuff. It was so pretty that we stopped to get a picture of the "snow" on the plants... realizing then that it was cotton!

Can you tell that we are northerners?

January 6 in Chesterton, Indiana ranged from -4 to 11F with about a 3-inch snow cover, often drifting horizontally. Brrr.

Tom was a Troll and we both have wonderful memories of various trips to the U.P. (and are longing to do more exploration ...and fantasize about being YooPers).

I was in the UP the day that was taken. I got bumped from my flight at Marquette Airport and watched the blizzard on the TV. It was 15 below that morning!!!Brrrrr! I cannot handle that cold weather anymore.... I had to hurry back to my Texas home ASAP. The next day, my birthday, I arrived in Houston to 70 degrees. Praise God!!!!The picture is wonderful and truly does look like cotton. I now get to look at the real stuff in August around here!
