"I'm dreamin' of a white - - Thanksgiving". Down the homestretch of November, and a snowy stretch it is. Got all of my wood put up for the winter, plenty of pasties in the freezer and cedar branches for the sauna. Think I'll take the rest of the year off.

Mary Drew has been doin' a great job as the weekday Pasty Camiester (Camistress?), but is away for the day to rotate her tires, ready to do some serious shopping later this week. My thanks to Doug Smith for this shot which conveys exactly how it looked along the Superior shore this morning.

By Becky in Orlando on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 10:07 am:

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Much, much better than just another sunny day here in Orlando.

By Kevin K. Lodi, Ca. on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 10:26 am:

FANTASTIC! Set as my new wallpaper.

By Kevin K. Lodi, Ca. on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 10:31 am:

The picture from the MTU viewcam looks like one of those Chirstmas villages you put up around the holiday's. BEAUTIFUL!

By Sherry Chapman, Rockwood, MI on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 11:06 am:

So pretty! Thanks. Another wallpaper setter here.

By Missin the UP from NJ on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 11:20 am:

B-r-r-r! But fantastically beautiful!
We're gonna get more rain. It's easier to drive in, but I love the white stuff!
Thanks!

Bete Gris-South side, would be my guess.

By Mary Ann, Bloomington, IN on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 11:58 am:

Absolutely beautiful. Just spitting snow in Southern Indiana, but not sticking. How much does this latest snowfall total up there?

By Dave, former Gremlin, in Seattle on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 12:21 pm:

Beautiful fresh snow in the UP!>>>Heikki Lunta is getting started without delay this year..Can anyone provide the words to Heikki Lunta's snow dance song? I would love to sing it in Seattle..

By Roudy Mi on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 12:39 pm:

You want to be careful where you sing that song. Legend has it that it was played on the radio in L.A. once and it snowed there.

By J. Nyquist, Buffalo, NY on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 01:00 pm:

Geez-o-man, what a gorgeous photo, eh! It really
makes me homesick.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 01:00 pm:

Dave, former Gremlin, in Seattle:
You need go no further, than right here, to order your own copy of Heikki Lunta Snowdance Song, while supplies last, along with a beautiful 2004 Pasty Cam Calendar from the Pasty Order Form. By suzy ,cape coral fla on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 01:06 pm:

That picture of the toll booth at the bridge says it all at 12 pm---- Good luck to you all but I think I will just stay here in cape coral fla ! Stay safe everyone with that stuff flying around ! suzy

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 01:36 pm:

It was 67 degrees here yesterday, and right now it's 28 with winds gusting to 35 miles an hour with snow flurries. This is another of those Pasty.cam pictures that would make a great jigsaw puzzle, to be done while sitting by the fire!

By Eric, Pewaukee WI on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 02:00 pm:

Gee.....this looks like the Yooper version of "Footprints".

By danbury; germany on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 02:15 pm:

Easy to say for someone who doesn't have to drive in or shovel around that stuff - but I love the sight!

By Mike B. on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 02:50 pm:

thanks for the link, John

By Yooper Girl, Hudsonville, MI on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 03:04 pm:

Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon, or is it just me? It seems the farther a person lives from the snow, the more beautiful it becomes.

By Mr. Wheatman, South end on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 03:33 pm:

Ahh one can feel the gelidity of the locale with a mere glimpse. The beauty of a tempest of glacial precipitation can be revered from far as well as near. Said climate is the nucleus of this "wonderland" we allude to as the "Keweenaw" indeed.

By Jeff Cortese, Mount Clemens on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 05:11 pm:

Cant wait to see that downstate!!!

By Just Grazing on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 05:14 pm:

All I can say Wheatman, is that you have a way words, and you said all of this without becoming belicose. Lol.

By Just Grazing on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 05:15 pm:

I erred on the above post by leaving out: "a way with words", so I stand corrected.

By Judy Brown-Kurnik Chesaning MI on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 05:40 pm:

Heikki Lunta is dancing here in the Saginaw Valley as the snow is falling and the wind creating near white out conditions at times. A beautiful sight from the warmth of home!

By Lowell MO. on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 06:28 pm:

Its not snowing here in Missouri yet. But its cold. The temp. dropped yesterday from 65 down to about 20 last nite and the high today was around 35. A little of your cold weather without the snow But we usually get a very cold wind to go with it. I think that the snow makes a person not mind the cold.

By Kevin K. Lodi, Ca. on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 06:34 pm:

Yooper Girl,
I know it's a real pain to put up with the snow, but when you live someplace were you don't get any, you tend to miss it.But you can bet if we did get snow, within a couple day's we to would be complaining also. Enjoy it and be careful!

By Russ E. St. Clair county MI on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 06:58 pm:

OK Mary I give! Easy enough to right click on picture to get the background. But how does one remove it to go back to original?

By Steve Brimm - Earth on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 07:29 pm:

Thanks Doug, I can taste your shot all the way from Wilmington, NC. I can see my Iversons leaning against the wall of my cabin in the Keweenaw and wish for a late night shoe.

Steve

ps. not that I'm complaining about walking on the beach and sailing every day

By Shannon, MI on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 08:04 pm:

How much snow did youse guys UP there get? Down in Detroit, we're just getting flurries.

By vlparisian on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 08:31 pm:

Forty years ago I delivered Newspapers in the snow. Never hated it, just went with the flow. I try to visit the UP each year in January. Look foreward to the change of scenery. Now that I am older I can hohestly say that I do love the snow.

By Connie - Colorado on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 09:47 pm:

Here in Colorado it's been freezing flipping cold since Friday night and it snowed here too. We didn't get nearly that much. There's something to what you say Yooper girl in Hudsonville, distance is proportional to love. When I first saw the photo, I didn't look at it for long, because it snowed here too! Russ E from St. Clair, you need to find that old photo from wherever it was and follow the same procedure, right click on it and set as background. Gotta go turn up the waterbed, we won't have any degrees tonight.

By Steve Racine Wi.calumet on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 10:43 pm:

All the snow makes me sick, home sick!! Have a hard time dealing with it, and without it. Miss it but i don't, you know what i mean, don't you?

By Cheri M. Longview TX on Monday, November 24, 2003 - 11:16 pm:

Man oh man do I miss that white stuff!! They have no idea what they are missing down here in the wilds of East Texas..... What I wouldn't give to be up there enjoying a warm fire and great friends.....and a pasty of course!

By Russ E., St. Clair county MI on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 12:36 am:

Mary: My "Thank You" reply to your email bounced, so thank you--and Connie too! Thats what I did. Now I can easily go back and forth from background to various backgrounds. Comparative "newby" to PCs so we didn't know that! Bless You!

By Mary Ann, WY on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 09:19 am:

Looks like your winter has started. We have had snow here for two weeks, and am tired of shoveling already. On the sunny days it is so pretty though and nice to be out in it. Hope to get some snowshoeing in and cross country skiing this winter, as last couple of years I have been too lazy. I was surprised when I went to buy snowshoes here several years ago, a local store was selling Iversons. Of course, I had to get a pair made in the UP near my home town. I love the saying on them "Seek Wilderness". Have a good winter.

Russ E., St. Clair county MI:

Your welcome! Not sure why your email bounced....
Since you're newbies...here's a link for some additional instructions: Change your desktop background. If you have any questions, feel free to try emailing me again...maybe it won't bounce this time!

By Pete from Wi on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 12:30 pm:

I've always thought a lot of people in the Copper Country (especially the elderly) have never been away so to them this is the way the world is so why complain. If I'm right I like the way they think.

By Gina, Michigan on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 03:58 pm:

LOOKS PRETTY, PRETTY COLD! no thanks, wish I was still in New Mexico, we are next for the white gunk I suppose...boohoo

By c pelto nm on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 10:19 pm:

speaking of new mexico, it was around the 7 degree mark this morning, brrrrrrrrr. the desert can get pretty cold at night!

By Carolyn S, Arizona on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 - 08:35 am:

Yeah, it can get cold in the desert too. We are at the Grand Canyon and it has been cold. We had 3 degrees the other morning. It snowed here night before last but the sun came out yesterday and it is gone. That is what I like about here, it doesn't stay very long. I am from Copper City. We have been out here almost 3 years. Let me hear from anyone up there.

By Dorothy M, CA on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 - 02:51 pm:

Eric, Pewaukee WI --I thought your comment was especially clever. Thanks. I'm in San Jose, CA
