Wow! Lots of bricks in this one, but I bet it makes for a real sturdy base in those Lake Superior winds! Dennis Kemper has some nice shots of the Sand Point Lighthouse. No, it's not the one in Escanaba, this one is in Baraga, on Keweenaw Bay. It's definitely the time of year when the ships would rely heavily on these beacons of light to guide them to safety. Each lighthouse has it's own story to tell. This one sure has a nice "balcony like" walkaround... wouldn't mind "settin' a spell" up there, watching the ships go by...

Looks like it needs a little work. Our family used to spend some of our summer vacations here as guests of owner Doc Guy.It was always a working vacation though. I remember putting on a new roof in '67. He kept a Larson in the boathouse for fun but I believe the boat and boathouse are long gone. Doc actually lived in L'Anse above the post office which my father helped him build in '57, and kept this place as a Summer cottage.

I'm sure it is enclosed to keep away the flies and the mosquitos! One can't have beauty and no bugs!

That porch would make one heck of a greenhouse for the winter!

That top photo looks like an excellent deer blind. Weather proof and 360 degree visibility.

The nips of Autumn will be sure to burnish this lighthouse. However, I really feel sorry for the poor lighthouse withstanding those winter howls.

Always interesting to see the lights that have been made into private homes and bed & breakfast establishments. While those of us who love the lights would enjoy seeing them "as they were", it is good to know that they have been taken care of and not fallen into dis-repair like many of the other Great Lakes lights.

The porch has a perfect view of the ecliptic making it perfect for planet gazing from indoors. An astronomy enthusiast would have it all with this house!

We would enjoy a porch like that on the roof of our home. It would be interesting on a nice day to enjoy the warmth of the sun or to star gaze
