A lofty view of the Village of Lake Linden from Skypixs. With all the leaves gone, it looks like the town is preparing for the onslaught of the snows! And for all the snowmobilers... you can even see the trail over the trestle!

Rick Anderson is quite the pilot and photographer. I was lucky enough to get the nod from Rick for a flight with him a few months back. What an amazing experience. Flying up above the Keweenaw gives you a much different perspective of our spot in paradise. Rick got me hooked... when we landed, I wasn't sure if I wanted a new camera or a plane!!!!!

I've heard John talk about a baseball feild close to his house before. There is one in the lower left of this picture. John's house may be just outside the photo in the lower left. Rick may need to get back up there for another shot. The most famous Lake Lindenite's house needs to be shown.

Love it..in one picture I can see all the important sites of my youth....my family home, 2 homes of grandparents.. 5 homes of aunts & uncles....my in-laws house......school & church. Friends and I had a great time growing up in Lake Linden...still love going back. somehow it never seems to change very much..... except I now go to Mount Calvery to vist a lot of my family... but I am grateful there are still friends to visit.. in my home-town.

What are the two blue (water) rectangles in the upper center of the pic?

The two blue (water) rectangles in the upper center of the pic are water treatment ponds. There's also a great nature trail around the perimeter of that whole area....wonderful place to walk your dog! If you look close, you can see a portion of it in the upper left corner!

Actually, I was wondering that myself. I have no idea what they might be. I was sitting not far from there this past summer on the Keweenaw Star for the fireworks cruise. Will be back home again for Christmas (first time in 16 years) and I can't wait.

NL...Please try again....my mail box may have filled up. I am Mary Lou Studer-Curtin (Gary)..my family is the Jacques Pierre Boudreau- Anselm Studer family..I am the only grandchild of the Studers but have cousins from the Boudreau side..Cassabon, Schnotala, Gagnon...my great-grandparents were Fretters from Hubble. It is an old family....all connected to the begining of the mining industry in the Copper Country. My late husband's family is Hulkonen-Curtin....also an old Copper Country family.

Where do you start on that trail? Isn't that area that used to be "the Sands"? Do you park by the Park to walk on the trail or over by the river? And, my last question, I promise, what is going on over by the river where the "rock" (is it mining waste?) is being broken up and hauled off?

Nice Picture, I believe I can see my old street there, this time of day it seems like I should be walking back to school after lunch.

Hey, that baseball field in the lower left hand corner is the boneyard, right?

sixty or so years ago when we played baseball there, we had to hit and run around sunken graves. We used overturned markers for bases. Things look a bit better there now.

Answering a couple more questions....

Rice Lake Allison: You start on the nature trail by parking by the gate entering the RV Campground, then walk straight ahead through the campground....Yes, it did used to be the "sands". I'm not sure I know what you mean by the "rock", over by the river, in your last question, so can't help on that one!

j. Atlanta: Yes, that is the Boneyard baseball field. Many improvements have been made there thanks to the Village and CLK-TL Baseball Assoc.

P.S.....if you look real close, you can even see my house!

I've been ordering pastys for the last 2-3 years after I found you. Your website has us so interested in your area that we are coming to visit this summer. We live full time in a motor home and look forward to seeing your area in the spring/summer(we are now in Florida where snow is a 4 letter word)

I just discoverd this site today and it is enough to make me savor the the coming of snow to the UP given the great pictures that will appear here.
Since about the age of ten have had a phantasy of liveing in the Houghton, Hancock area becaue of all the snow they get.It has always seemd like a mythical place to me.Seeing these pictures makes it even more so.
Latest model runs indicate colder with light snows by next week but as yet no sign of a major snow period.
Global weather services has an 88% chance for above normal snow and below average cold for the upper midwest this year.
If I were liveing in the western UP I could hardly wait.

To Charles, Madison Wi:
In addition to your interest in the Houghton / Hancock area, you are apparently have a fairly serious interest in weather as well. In that case, if you'll haven't already been there, you'll probably also enjoy a daily visit to the den of the Copper Country's own meteorologist & serious snow bunny at John Dee's Snow Central.

My email box was full of messages this morning - all telling me to check in with the pasty cam. It's been a long time since I played in the "boneyard" but the memories are still sharp. It was a great way to start the day. Keep up the good work. Unfortunately the home I grew up in is just out of the shot to the north of town.

I was born in Laurium in 1966. Haven't been to the UP since 1990. I love your pic's. I wish you took a shot alittle more south on Hecla St. in Laurium, I had a relative who lived there. If I ever get back to the UP, can I look you up for a ride around up (not UP) there ?

Looks like a Picasso view of the USA with that big blue square a swimming pool for the elite of the Hill area of DC--or perhaps the Great Lakes, squared? Texas, of course, is a vibrant green, much as I remembered the Houston area in '81, just before the hurricane hit. Florida has obviously sunk into the ocean due to the weight of all the snowbirds and other good folk who moved south. Crop circles, water squares, who knows what goes on anymore?

Lisa...I remember the Cassette family on 8th st. hill .....Virginia, Alice and Eddy.....really a nice family....they were good friends of the Curtin family...Mike Makinen (Alice's son) was a good friend of Denny Curtin....I remember the day they ran away from home....they were about 5 yrs old and went on a "grand adventure" along the railroad tracks....scared their families half to death. Mike is a lawyer in Hancock.....wonder if he remembers the adventure???

To answer Raven's question as to what the 2 blue square ponds are in the upper corner.... it is the wastewater treatment system. Lake Linden has a lagoon system as does Hubbell-Tamarack.

Yes, Charlie, Virg was my mom's cousin. I just found out yesterday that she had passed away. Thanks so much for posting the picture. I loved Virg, Alice, and Ed...fun people! My mom is 88 and the only one in her family still alive.

We visited my grandpa on G St every year over the 4th of July when I was growing up. It was the highlight of the year for me. I love the Keweenaw. Hoping to retire to Hancock in a few years.

C Cassabon...Ursula Boudreau Cassabon was my Aunt..she was a sister to my mother Delima Boudreau Studer. (there were seven girls in the Jacques Boudreau family). I was a cousin to your late father-in-law, Bert, and I stood for Bert and Arlene when they married at St Joseph's church. I remember Ray as a small child.... Aunt Ursula and Uncle Clfford were wonderful people and I loved them dearly.....they were very close to my parents.

What a small world. Ray is in San Diego right now visiting with Arlene. She just had some surgery, so he's there to make sure all is well. I have done quite a bit of genealogy on Cassabon and Boudreau. Ray & I were in Lake Linden this past 4th of July. We had Arlene with us. I just love it up there.

I don't know what will happen if I post on a thread this old, but I'll try...I mentioned my mom (Betty Cassette) earlier, and I just wanted to let anyone who remembered the family know that she died last Friday. She was the oldest of 6 kids and outlived all the others. Her brother Clem was the postmaster of Mohawk.
