Karen Karl's Grandma Lucile explored the rocks in Eagle Harbor on a day like today in the 1920's. Unusually warm for opening weekend of deer season.

Back in August, Karen had a golden shot from Brockway on the Pasty Cam, which was often appeared in nominations for the 2004 Calendar. As it turned out, the size of the picture was just right to wrap-around as the front and back cover. The calendar will soon be available on the holiday pasty shipping schedule, or to order individually.

That is one calendar I will be ordering...What a perfect cover shot. Great work

Here's a plug for a book that just came out: _Season's Revenge_ by Henry Kisor. A murder mystery novel set in Ontonagon, lots of places are easily recognizable. (So far--I haven't finished it yet.)

And a bonus for me. He says in the linked interview that one of the characters was inspired by my mother, Ruth Ristola. Inspiration only, as my mom was never a stunning redhead with gorgeous green eyes!

Seeing the lighthouse raises a question.

Can you drive out to the Copper Harbor lighthouse
or is that private closed road?

I'd like to go out there sometime and look for the
green copper vein that was famous in the early
days: "Roche Verde" I think it was called. I wonder
if any of it still can be seen beneath the waters of
the lake?

Sorry, Herb, you cannot drive out to the lighthouse. The road is private, and there is a locked gate preventing access that way to the lighthouse, as the lighthouse property itself is State Park property. In the summertime, you can take the ferry boat that runs each hour during the day to and from the lighthouse from the Copper Harbor Marina, weather permitting. The current Yooper Calendar on the pasty order form is the traditional U.P. humor calendar, published by VSI in the Copper Country. Our color picture 2004 Pasty Cam calendar will be available after Thanksgiving.

Hi, Catherine of Holland. I'm Lyndelle Brower of Holland. Do we know one another? Currently, I'm living near Washington, D.C. The other day when it was so windy here, I kept thinking, "If I were back home, I'd be at Ottawa Beach right now watching the waves crash over the pier.

Herb: The copper veins out under the waves are plenty beautiful and very visable. It makes for a lovely photo when the light is right.
