Over in the Guest Gallery David Cloutier has a wonderful collection of scenic photos, many from the U.P. This one captures the feel of waking up on a frosty November Saturday morning, gearing up for some hunting time in the woods... much like the scene outside our window this morning here in Eagle River.

It nice to have Mary Drew serving up the weekday pictures here on the Pasty Cam. We're already beginning to get busy for the upcoming holiday season at Pasty Central, so I appreciate the extra time. Toivo and I will still cover the weekends. He's probably out there behind a deer blind somewhere this morning, just waiting for some venison to walk along.

Have a safe weekend.

The sun came up this morning accompanied by the sound of gunfire! Hunters, stay safe and take home a big deer!

By Kevin K, Lodi Ca. on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 10:07 am:

Good luck to all the deer hunters out there.
I sure miss opening morning.

By Uncle John on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 10:40 am:

Good luck to the deer, too.

By Scott, Wi. on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 12:42 pm:

I have alot of respect for the real hunters
and what they do. They are good people
and are spoiled by the few that aren't.

Oh...oh...oh that's my dreaam house!

By Kevin K. Lodi,Ca. on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 03:06 pm:

It kind of looks like the Soady deer camp from Escanaba in da Moonlight

By Bob in Lima, OH on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 03:26 pm:

Looks like that Black Lab in front of the cottage is barking at the photographer.

By danbury; germany on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 07:55 pm:

What's a real hunter, Scott?
Or rather, what do the others do?
Just curious.
Waidmanns Heil (Good luck to hunters in proper german hunterlingo).

Came up to Ont. today for a pilgrimage and stopped at the Baraga shrine for the first time in years, partly due to the photos and discussion here a while back. Can anyone enlighten me about the fire on the day they set it up?

He was quite the guy!

By L. Hart, Santa Catalina Island, CA on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 08:11 pm:

You hunters are invited to come and get rid of the deer eating all the plants in our gardens in Avalon on Catalina Island (CA). I took a picture of a big buck/big rack, staring at me, inches away, through my picture window at 1:00 in the afternoon recently. Have to cover all the plants with netting or they end up in their greedy little bellies in no time.

By Steve Racine Wi on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 08:57 pm:

I can understand the kill to eat, but not the kill for horns

By Scott. Wi. on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 09:02 pm:

A real hunter follows the rules and regulations
and would never drink while hunting. He understands the tradition of the hunt and passes that down to his son.

Doesn't pepper the road signs with holes
and uses his rifle only in a proper manner.

We what the others do....

By John-Canton Mi on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 09:40 pm:

Well, could never hunt myself but have nothing
against it and sort of admire some hunters I know.
Agree with Steve about the tropy on wall thing.
However, its dead anyway and if the meat is
consumed the "decoration" on the wall does`nt
really matter. Just a matter of taste I guess.
Good luck to the hunters.

Opening Day: Deer season 2003 The Z-man shoots two deer in one shot. http://pasty.com/pcam/Z-man/PB150513zby1

Z-Man

I was thinking before I went to the link to your gallery.............how on earth did he get two with one shot. I am glad I didn't have to see two dead deer. I have nothing against huntin, but could never do it myself. Nice job on the photo.

Who needs a gun? Some of us (unfortunately) bag our buck with our cars!

By Scott stuck in Indiana on Sunday, November 16, 2003 - 09:30 am:

Z-man you better be careful or the DNR may come after you for "shooting" the yearling....haha
Glad to see you had a successful hunt and good luck to all the deer hunters too.

By The Dam Guy, Parasite Creek on Sunday, November 16, 2003 - 10:05 am:

I applaud the opinions and comments of today's
Pasty posters. Just because you do something
doesn't make it right, and just because you
won't do something doesn't make it wrong. I
don't hunt much these days; I usually swap a
load of firewood for my venison. Good luck to
those afield in pursuit of speedbeef. Be care-
ful, and hold off on the bottle til you get back
to camp.

By Herb_NW_Wis. on Sunday, November 16, 2003 - 06:11 pm:

I have my deer stand all fixed up and ready for
opening day come Saturday.

No snow here. Any in the great U.P.?

Da Yooper in the Moonlight movie had some good
points. I like the way it used real legends such as
the Windigo and/or Bear Walker. Other parts were
rather dumb, but it was good to see something set
locally and NOT just New York City or Hollywood
cops and murder shows that we've seen a
BILLION times by now ad nauseum......
