About last night... here's a before and after. Lake effect snow along Superior can be pretty unpredictable, but it finally hit us.

If you're driving anywhere across the U.P. this weekend, allow plenty of extra time and watch for gusting winds.

Boy does that bring back the good old days when there was not a care in the world.Looks like the first of a lot to come.

Sure looks like the roads this morning. A few inches of white arrived overnight. A few cars in the ditch this AM.

In that first picture the little girl looks at the camera as if to say, "I put my snow suit on for this?"! Then WHAM! the lake effects!
It's always surprising how quickly things can go from fine to dangerous where the weather's concerned. All you Yooper's take care.
I'm hoping we have enough snow for snowshoeing this winter. We've had some HUGE storms over the years but only every 4 to 6 years. The years between the big snows usually what snow we get melts back with winter rains (yuck).

Hey Bob, in sunny, warm Arizona, I would look forward to snow getting deeper, too, if I didn't live in the middle of the Copper Country. You can be sure I won't be singing, "Let It Snow" anytime soon....maybe John Denver's "Sunshine".

How's the State doin' with taking care of the M and US numbered roads in Houghton County ???

Is the second picture taken along M28 out of Shingleton heading towards Munising? Sure looks like it.

Okay, Carole, I'm dying of curiosity. To me that looks like any number of roads in the UP, all I see is the snow, what about it makes you think its M28 out of Shingleton? I will be so impressed if you are right! Ü

Yaay snow!!! The little one is so cute,all ready to play in the snow in her nice warm snow suit.I never could figure why they don't sell snowsuits in this area it can get pretty cold here. Kids just don't go out on cold days. Well ya'll (oops) stay safe and warm.

Left side of road looks too open to be US41, looks like the railroad tracks/snowmobile trail near Shingleton.

My pick for the snow picture is US41, heading towards Hancock, just past the State Police post and Dan Riutta's store.

I don't know where the pic was taken, but it doesn't look like the kinda snow where headlights never help much, and your driving into the tunnel of endless blizzard weather. I hate that "tunnel" feeling when driving in snow. My suggestion is stay home with the fireplace going, and a hot toddy in hand!

I don't think the pic is a current one. The snowbanks are way too high! If the area would have gotten that much snow overnight, we would have heard about it on the Dick Storm News from WOLF radio. It has to be one from someone's archives!!

I think I know where the picture was taken,Its south of Flagstaff about 10 miles.Or maybe not.They all look alike.

I think this looks like US-41 between Mohawk and Copper Harbor.

I also doubt this was taken today. I live less than a half hour from where I think this was taken and I only got 2 inches. Looks as though this was last year after a few good snowfalls. I still think I am right!

My guess, M-28 between Seney & Shingleton last January.

Funny how when you live in an area that get's the white stuff, you hate it. But move some place where it doesn't snow, and see how much you miss it.Nice thing about the Central Valley here in California, I can head to the Sierra's and be in snow in an hour's time, or head to the coast and be at the ocean in an hour and a half. Still, there's no place like home! Pictures like these make me homesick for Mich.

US41 was pretty rough this morning between Calumet and Houghton and not so rough on M26. However, since the only digital camera Charlie has right now is the bridge cam (at least that was the case as of a week or so ago) chances are it wasn't taken by him. I perasonally don't know exactly where it is but I do know that it is in the Keewenaw and it's definelty US41 and it was taken this morning.

Grizzly - you're snowing us! The second picture was definately NOT taken today on US41. However, the first picture was taken nearly two weeks ago, in my front yard.

Well, the bottom pic says photo by Charlie Hopper, so if it wasn't today....when was it, Charlie? And I cast my vote for US-41 just past the State Police Post headed for Hancock as well, although it could also be by Three Lakes going toward Marquette. Since I haven't seen any of that landscape in a few years, it's all conjecture anyway...

Have the snows diminished recently? I remember being a kid and the snow covered the ground from November through late March.

Now rain washes it away too fast.

This photo looks like it is between Shingleton and Munising to me. I was just back for a visit to the UP a couple weeks ago, and looks like I had my trip planned right. I visited my hometown of Manistique, so was on Lake Michigan. One day I drove to Munising and Marquette, so I could see Lake Superior too. Lake Superior had some good waves. A wind surfer was having a good ride by Presque Isle. I found that the last several summers I have been missing living by the Great Lakes. The UP is a special place for me and always will be.

Those last two pictures are definitely Munising. I recognize that part of the town pretty well (not just that part, but ALL of Munising). Must've been one of those fierce U.P. storms, especially if it ends up closing M-28 between Munising and Harvey.

This is definitely Munising. We spend 2 weeks up there in May and a week and half in September. ALways riding around in the area so am familiar with various landmarks. Still am convinced yesterdays picture was taken on M28 outside of Shingleton heading west, somewhere near the railroad tracks that cross the highway by a paper mill plant.

What a difference in the UP it makes. Here Im from Marquette mother nature cannot make up her mind on which to have Rain/snow/ice/mild haha
We got hit with 2 snow storms so far but it had all melted away Im beging to like this lack of snow I hope it stays this way until Christmas.

Every year people are reminded by the police to take there time and drive slow. So Slow down!!

Carole you are right on, drove by the spot Nov 14th. About 3/4 mile east of the tracks, heading west, if not for the snow you might have been able to make out the RR crossing lights over the road.
