And Mother Earth pulls down her blanket from the trees to get ready for a long Winter's nap.

Beautiful!

By Mike R. New Berlin, WI on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 09:04 am:

Z-Man. What were you doing on Ruth Lake Road in Three Lakes. That is exactly how our road looked going into our camp last weekend. Was up there for 4 days. On Friday took a ride to Lake of The Clouds via Hwy 38 out of Baraga. All I can say is "Hoe Lee Waaaaah!"

I feel the nip in the air and hear the crunch beneath my feet. Exhilarating! Thanks for the great picture!

I lived in Grand Rapids for 18 years and in Harbor
Springs for 2 years making many trips to the UP.
There's no place like it and especially the Keewanau. Thanks for all the great photos!

By Missin the UP from NJ on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 10:41 am:

Thanks for the great picture!
A jigsaw puzzle? Wow that's one for a snowed in weekend!
It's gotten to the point where if I don't check this site once a day, I get that feeling that somethings not right... know what I mean?
(I think it's a healthy addiction)

By Kate, CA on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 10:45 am:

Is Thurner's bakery closed? Was up there last week of Sept. Ate my fill of that great crusty bread at 8:00 in the morning. Been doing that for the last 50 + years. What a shame if it is......

The location of this shot is 1/2 mile north off of Stagecoach road. South of lake Gogebic off U.S. 2. A close up of them leaves. http://pasty.com/pcam/Z-man/PA110435b

The roads just past and through Mandan in Keweenaw County are my favorites for fall...the Ghost Town...the wind through the trees and leaves as they fall....the whispers of days and times fleeting as they disappear into time.....the feeling that you are being watched...the eerie silence....

By MEJLauium,MI on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 01:46 pm:

Where can one find wild cranberries in the Keeweenaw area? Everything wild was so plentiful this year. I would love to pick some cranberries! Anyone know?

By Helen, Michigan on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 01:59 pm:

Yes Thurner's Bakery went out of business. ....
I just hope they can find someone to reopen the bakery again. It is just terrible that we lost a home grown business.

HEY DON YOU GOING TO GET TOGETHER WITH THE Z-MAN FOR ANOTHER PHOTO SHOOT?? WOULD BE NICE TO SEE SOME FALL TYPE PICTURES OF THE TWO OF YOU TRYING TO BULLFIGHT WITH MOOSE HORNS ON A VEHICLE OF SOME KIND AGAIN!!

To MEJLauium,MI

Cranberries...

Try between Gay and Lac La Belle. On the road (oposite of the lake) there are some "bogs" and standing water... on the edge of these pools are tamarac moss's and other waterside brush. The berries are on the ground to about 4" off on small "vines". If there are none or only a few, move around. Some areas are better than others... if you have canoe access, there are a couple lakes with floating marsh.

Hope this helps, if you need any further info, feel free to email me.

It makes me miss home soooo much!! I grew up in Bessemer and Fall is my favorite season. Fall just isn't the same in Nevada.

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 02:30 pm:

This one reminds me of the Justin Hayward song "Forever Autumn": "Through autumns' golden gown we used to kick our way..." I've changed my wallpaper so often this week I think I've worn out the "save as wallpaper" button! Well done all you Pasty Cammers!

By Debi, Laurium on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 03:13 pm:

Anyone out there go on the ski lift rides up Mt. Bohemia a little over a week ago? It was worth $5! The worst part was going up and coming back down, especially for one that thinks the first step on a ladder is too high! Anxious to here some comments if you had the opportunity to get up there!

By Dan, MI on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 04:26 pm:

Please make this a WOW! This makes a great background!

By Missin the UP from NJ on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 05:09 pm:

Was checking out Z-man's album. Wowee! #7's bright blue sunny sky really appealed to me this afternoon cause the sky here has been cloudy and we're supposed to get lotsa wind and rain.

As ever, THANKS! to all the photographers who share their HUGE talents with us.

By Leslie on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 05:21 pm:

To Jack and Pegg: As a jigsaw puzzle, this would drive me crazy! Beautiful photo.

By Carole on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 - 05:58 pm:

How sad that Thurner's is going out of business. Many, many years ago my grandfather used to go to Thurners to get bread, turnovers and donuts (before we ever heard of cholesterol, saturated/unsaturated fat and carbohydrates). Just hope someone will reopened this wonderful landmark and continue making all those goodies.

Also sad to see that the Hut and Patricks Pub/Pasty is for sale. Have enjoyed going to the Hut since the original owner opened many years ago.
