After some blustery days last week, the last couple have been without a breeze overnight, which allowed some thick frost to blanket the woods. Roger Kangas caught this scene just as the streaks of sunrise hit the treetops, before the frost would burn away.

Edie and I had a pleasant ride up to the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge last night, for the annual Lion's banquet. We could not recall seeing this much green this late in the season. Perhaps Jack Frost will kick start the colors yet. Hurry home, Toivo, or you'll miss it.

You could turn this picture over and hardly be able to tell which is water and which is sky.

After looking at the MTU ViewCam, it looks as if the trees have just as much color here in Ypsilanti as they do in Houghton. I'm not sure if it's early for us here, because last year the leaves never did change color. It was such a warm fall that they finally just turned brown in November and finally fell off the trees.

So happy to be back online.So i been busy looking at all the things i missed here over the summer.I'am from Dollar Bay,MI.I Yoosta be a Yooper the first 18 yrs.of my life,since then i've been a Troll from the Detroit area sending my tax & vacation $'s up that way.I didn't mind,it was the ones who never been to the U.P.from Detroit who complained.I have just moved to Tennessee near Knoxville,have been comming here for years,& it is so very much like Northern Mich.except no Great Lakes,the woods & hills are the same here,8 inchs is the average snowfall a yr.is why i'll rest here.

Could be a dandy winter tho...with what folks are saying!! The natural bounty has outdone itself this year, berries and apples, etc. And I just heard that depending on how high the wasps build their nests, will determine the ferocity of winter. I guess the higher the nest the harder the winter, and the loggers/foresters are saying the nests were high this year. Which brings me to a question...what happens to the bees and wasps for the winter? Thanks Pasty Land!

We just arrived home from the Houghton-Hancock area today. Had some nasty weather over the weekend and then it turns nice when we had to leave. Color was great in some places; lots of green in other places yet. But it's always great to be back in the Keweenaw anytime.

The picture shown today was taken from the Electric Park Rd, (N. of Boston Location) just off 41. Thanks to all for the compliments, and thanks to Pasty Central for allowing us to share our photos. Color season is really starting to come on quick after a seemingly slow start. My guess is that the colors are going to be the best by the weekend and early next week.

My secretary is going to Finland next summer and she is wondering if anyone out there knows anyone from Terjärv (Högnabba) or Kronoby? As she says, her "morfar's" name was Jakobsson Björk.

This sure lloks like a place that I've fished on the lower reaches of the Montreal Meadows just outside Delaware. Is that right?

Also, I believe this flows to Hungarian Falls, so some people might refer to this as Hungarian Creek.
